The Itinerant AnglerAs those of you who stalk me on Facebook know by now (Ian I am looking at you), November 6 was my thirtieth birthday. In honor of that event, I took a three-day trip to the White River in Arkansas.

I car-camped at Rim Shoals, which is probably illegal.

See, I’ve figured out how to lay out my seats so I can make a flat sleeping surface. It was in the 30s at night but I was plenty comfortable in my zero degree sleeping bag.
I moved around some but I believe in this maxim: “Do not leave fish to find fish.” Ultimately, Rim Shoals had the fish. Rim is easily crossable at 2500cfs or below but the White (and its overlords) are not to be trusted. I brought the boat as backup and used it as an equipment mule.Nov 10, 2010 at 10:44 pm #45711Tim Pommer

The Itinerant AnglerIt requires a trip back to my glorious home state some times, but yes, it does happen.

MemberGood looking brownie, and nice solo shots. they can be tough without feeling like you are man-handling the hell out of the fish but you pulled it off well.
Did you get a wading staff & a pair of flip down hat magnifiers for your birthday? I can only say that because I am still in my 20’s (but not for long)

I hope you’re planning on involving a jet ski with flames on it.

MemberActually, the Cumberland has been quite good, the past few weeks. Generation is down to 540cfs. I’ve been taking my canoe to use as an access boat, then getting out and wading gravel bars. It won’t last, but for now it’s the best it’s been all year.
