Haven’t been to the White in several years so we headed up last weekend. I didn’t realize you were there Zach you could have stayed at our place in Cotter. The day we arrived (fri) they had six generators going and they ran water most all weekend… Decided to hit Norfork on Sat but we discovered that they were running 2 all day despite the scheduled generation. How they get away with doing that in a Trout fishing town is beyond me.  We ended up streamer fishing all weekend… Two largest fish came in around 4 or 5 pounds, I don’t measure fish.

That will probably be my last trip to the White. Too much drive time to gamble on water flows and catch only Trout. Zach I agree, what we had on the Cumby blew the White away IMO.

Ohh and Happy birthday whipper snapper.

Awesome! A great way to celebrate a birthday regardless of the age.

Happy birthday Zach.  I think you are catching up.  I’m only twice as old as you now.

In response to Zach’s question about the Cumberland…clarity at the moment is fairly good.    Water temperature since late spring has been in the low to mid-60’s.  I’m not a biologist but possibly the warmer temperatures have promoted some algae growth.  Back in March and April, there was a certain greenish-gray siltiness to the water.  This was when the was temperature was colder.  A couple river watchers I know thought the discoloration was caused by grout escaping from the repair work being done on the dam.  If we have a prolonged dry spell again next year starting in the late summer, as we typically do here in Kentucky, and the Army Corps drops generation down to its present level, I’d recommend you give the Cumberland another try in the Fall.

    Happy Birthday!

Flyfishing in your 30’s is a special time . . . . established enough in your career where you can afford to travel where you want to, but still young enough to take on any hike-in DIY trip . . . . nothing short of euphoric.

    Enjoy every minute of it!
