The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
What’s the best deal going on one of those lights that clips onto the stem of your vise?

MemberZack, I saw this on Amazon a while back. Is this what you are looking for?

noneMemberLooks very nice but it looks like it uses a regular bulb? I was hoping for one with LED lights for longevity as well as brightness.
Like this one from Marc Petitjean, but boy is it expensive!

MemberZach,
If you are not heart-set on the clip-on style, look for a 50% off coupon in Sunday’s paper for Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, etc. and get yourself an Ott-Lite. I love mine and wish I had got it sooner.

MemberI second the Ott Light and cannot believe I ever tied without it on my desk.

MemberZach,
Get the ottlite you will be pleased. I have been tying with a rechargeable ottlite for a couple of years and am very happy with it. I picked it up at Lowes for around $40.steve

The Itinerant AnglerNeal –
I’ve got an Ott Light or at least a natural daylight desk light with a magnifier built in (which doesn’t work well because you can’t get it horizontal without imbalancing the light).
I have never tied with a clip on light; do you find they get in the way?

Memberyep, they get in the way and don’t put out much light anyway.

MemberI have the Dyna King light and I have not had it to be a bother about getting in the way. Love it.

Michael PhillippeMemberI have the McKenzie light (without magnifier) that I’ve used for about five years. I think it’s great. I tie everything from #22 Trico’s to spey flies. I’ve had a couple of others over the years but the McKenzie gives the best light and I haven’t had to change the bulb yet.

MemberI have a McKenzie vise light that I attach to the stem of my Renzetti Traveler when on the road or doing tying demos.

MemberI use the Learning light from Ott and it is tall enough to place /near over my Renzetti without hampering my tying.

MemberJust picked up an Normande Daylight Anywhere at Hobby Lobby tonight after reading this thread and being tired of my overhead light/ceiling fan (that my wife would accidentally turn on while I’d be tying causing material to go everywhere).
