Has anyone ever had a repetitive stress injury from casting?

I was going to suggest you have someone look at your wrist, like a trainer.

    Zach,
Definatly a possibility. There are some tape products out there that are easy to apply with a little training and are very unobtrusive.
Kinesio Tape, for example, is some pretty amazing stuff if you have access to someone who is familiar with it. Just for reference it is the same stuff that was so scrutinized back during the Beijing Olympics with the US womens beach volleyball team.
I frequently experience some “casting elbow” type symptoms and a couple pieces of this tape applied correctly the pain is gone in less than a day and I can quickly get back to fishing.

Sounds like a birthday problem to me.

I used to play quite a bit of tennis and had some tennis elbow.

Sounds like a birthday problem to me.  Getting older does that.  😉  I have a couple of old injuries that tend to cause issues, but they have more to do with getting to the water than casting once I get there (back and knee).  I’d say have an sports med doc of some type look at it.

I was thinking this too. haha.

Definitely a birthday issue if you ask me, I’ve got a few of those starting to wreak havoc.

Hey zach, i had a reoccurring “knot” thing in my upper back, literally knock me flat for a day or two when it would tighten up on me.

    Nobody mentioned carpal tunnel syndrome.

Nobody mentioned carpal tunnel syndrome.  I have that problem when I am on the stupid computer too long.  It effects my fly casting and golf swing.

Then again birthday issue is the cause of alot of small aches and pains.

Zach’s decription of the mechanism of injury and where he felt the pain is inconsistent with carpal tunnel. Most likely it was a sprain
