MemberSpent the few past days up in Michigan steelheading. Started out by fishing Monday on a small creek in SW Michigan. Hit a fish on the 5th cast of the day and quickly lost it after a series of jumps. I am a firm believer in a fish right at the day is usually the kiss of death and sure enough it was. Fished hard for 10 hours with that being the only take. I was ok with that for the day. 0 for 1 on a day swinging for steelhead is not that bad.
The next day I floated the Muskegon River. Fishing was slow with a few little bumps and one grab. It did not help that we had clear skies that day. With that and the still below normal and clear water levels I knew fishing was going to be tough, but you always

MemberMike you are my Zen Fisher Hero. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “I live vicariously through you.”
Your version of ghetto fishing is MUCH better than the one at Urban Dictionary http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ghetto%20Fishing

MemberNice fish. There was a show on one of the outdoor channels where a guy was fishing the Delaware near Philly for smallmouth. He caught some nice fish where people told him there were no fish.
Some fish just like the city night life.
Thanks for sharing your ghetto experience.Nov 20, 2010 at 4:26 pm #45957

No, but I was listen to some Rammstein earlier that day. Sort of my thing before going fishing.

MemberFishing in Downtown GR is a guilty pleasure for sure. More fish swim under those bridges and over that dam than anywhere in the Midwest – and probably more than most rivers out west. It’s just dealing with the semi’s jake brakes, bums, and crowds that can really make it unappealing.
Nice fish.
The numbers that of fish that come up that way are insane. It’s not that bad to fish it now that the salmon are pretty much all gone and deer season has started. Besides if you are not fishing below the dam you have a majority of the water all to yourself. I think I only saw 4 other people fishing below the dam that day, it was pretty nice.
