MemberSick fish Mike ;D! Wow. Fish envy setting in here :'(. But hey, the West Sierra Trout season opens tomorrow, so maybe some smallish Bows, Browns & Brookies can be coaxed to hand. Well done.

MemberSounds good Zach. The speed on this site was the only thing aside from the hacks I’d wondered about. Glad to hear you found a solution to your site woes and I hope it goes smoothly.

MemberCameron, there are four shops I would have your friend check out.
Bob Marriot’s, which is in Fullerton. http://www.bobmarriottsflyfishingstore.com/ContactUS.aspx
His and Her Fly Fishing, in Costa Mesa. http://www.hisherflyfishing.com/
And The Fisherman’s Spot, in Van Nuys. http://www.fsflyfishing.com/info%20page.htm
Also, in Kernville (a few hours north) is a great little shop owned by a friend of mine. It’s called The Kern River Fly Shop and is also home to Kernriver Troutfitters Guide Service. http://www.kernriverflyfishing.com
The Kern shop also hosts a flyfishing forum which is a great source of info for the entire area. I actually post there daily. It’s a pretty good online community, and members do

MemberLando…incredible places. Thanks.
Patrick…that is the best response I have seen in a long time. 🙂
Lando…I hate you too ;).
I had to pass on fishing the Lower Owens this weekend. My buddies reported back that they caught so many fish they lost count. Right now I could cry. But hey, I think I found an apartment today :-/.

MemberPatrick, I’ve not chimed in here as I have not done any fishing in the SF area. I live a few hours south of there in Fresno and have been fishing the Kings pretty regularly the last few months. In the summer, I tend to fish in the Shaver & Bass Lake areas most often. There are some fun creeks I started exploring last summer. Anyway, what got me to post here was the mention of Putah Creek. I have heard some very good things about that water. Unfortunately, a bad item to know about as well: it does have New Zealand Mud Snails. It is supposed to have some good fishing, just be aware of the snail issue. Where ever you end up fishing, I hope you have a blast.

MemberChristine, tell me, how did you feel putting a camera in the water the first time? I had a hell of a time putting my Pentax in the water the first time ;). Too many years of conditioning against such things I guess.

MemberZach, sorry to hear about this. You mentioned that this screwed up your Firefox some…I am a Mac user of many years, but have no clue on virus and Java and such. Go figure. Anyway, if this is something which just viewing messed up your Firefox at work, is there anything you know of which will affect Safari? Or does that seem to be a Windows issue?
I do have Firefox but rarely use it on the on my MacBook. Used it a lot on the G4 in the past.
I never noticed anything amiss and always go in through the main index. Have not checked the Photoblog in a few days (which I love by the way – you take some really cool pics).

MemberJust found this thread Roger. Looks good. First read: Thin Places. Cool & spooky, like a number of places I’ve been and enjoyed. I don’t have that kind of personal family history with any place though. Thanks for the read and best of luck with this. Pretty cool, man. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

MemberI’d like to say I have personal experience with them, but I can’t. I do however know 3 or 4 fly fishers who do and absolutely swear by the Echo rods. I was going to get one myself, but am holding out for a rod building class so I can build a rod. Anyway, the Echos rods, I think, come with 2 tips. An ‘A’ tip for accuracy & a ‘D’ tip for distance. Good luck whichever way you go in choosing a rod. Personally, I don’t care too much for the Cabela’s rod I have, but I have only fished the one rod from them, and would not judge all their rods on my limited experience.

MemberHey Mike, the W30, well I am sad to say that I don’t think things have improved there. As much as I like this camera for fishing pics, I have not taken a night/low light shot of any worth. Of course, I am not much of a photographer to begin with and have quite shaky hands sometimes. It does well enough in most other situations tho, and I did buy it just for fishing, so anything else really is a bonus for me.

MemberWonderful pictures Mike. Gotta love lab pups. 🙂 They are such wonderful dogs thru their life. The picture of the Brown, I really like this one. I love the reel sitting just below the water surface and all the water reflection over it, plus, well it’s a trout. Favorite things and all that. 🙂

MemberI’ve got the book on my wish list, along with host of others at amazon. If it does not come my way Christmas, I’ll be picking it up myself. Was listening to another podcast with John Barr the other day. Good stuff.
By the wasy. I just finished the Peter Morse podcast Zach did. Too cool. Sounds like quite the place to grown up fishing. 🙂
