Chad SimcoxMemberI used to tie a pattern for the smokies that I called the Prince Telli that was, as you can guess, a mash up of a Prince Nymph and a Tellico Nymph. I used black hackle tips for the tail, yellow floss thorax with peacock hurl ribbing, Turkey tail fibers for shell back, white goose biots for wings (like a prince nymph), and a brown hackle collar.
I’d also have ants, parachute adams, humpies, green weenies, BHPT, hoppers, stimulators, copper johns, caddis nymph, royal trude, royal coachman, stone fly nymphs… The nice thing about fishing the smokies is you can get away with big flies (size 12/14/16).

Chad SimcoxMemberWalter Hill over by the landfill off HWY231? Theres fish in there? I never caught jack on the fly rod when fishing from the bank. (not much casting room in the first place)
Good job. This is the type of activism we need. TN has a hotline to report poaching.
Individuals with information about poachers or poaching activities can contact the TWRA by calling one of the regional offices from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 midnight, seven days a week.
Telephone numbers for reporting poachers are as follows:

Chad SimcoxMemberGreat video. I’ve been wanting a digital rangefinder/p&s with manual controls like this, but if I’m going to spend over $3K on photo gear, it’s going towards lenses for my SLR…
I wish a manufacturer would make a small compact digital camera with apeture and focus control on the lens and a dial for shutter selection and ISO. Oh and no shutter lag. Imagine a Canon G10 type camera with all physical manual controls. How great would that be?!?http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI came across a great tutorial somewhere recently on creating great looking digital blur in photoshop. You use the quick mask tool and lens blur. It makes for good transitions between the blurred and non blurred areas. Here are some shots with it.

Chad SimcoxMemberSorry for a late response, but I just got back this morning from a long trip through south america.
I own 2 sunpak 383, a recenlty acquired used Canon 430EX(haven’t done used it myself yet), a set of Elinchrom skyports (2 recievers), a few light stands and a few umbrellas of different sizes. I also own some monlights for studio work. I have to say that while the speedlite style flashes are limited on their ability, they can get the job done properly if you know how to work within their limitations.
If you can get a deal on the sunpak 383s I’d say pick them up. I bought mine for around $100 each. They have since been discontinued but are great strobes for the money.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberThat things a trout fly?!?!? 😮
I don’t have any trips planned to fish the Little Red River anytime in the future, but if I do I know what I’m going to be tossing in the evening! Nothing like imitating stocker trout to catch the monsters in that river!http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberAwesome shots, fun conditions. I always liked fishing in the snow when I was in Colorado. Just have to watch out for ice chunks flowing down river. Great job with the softhackles, it’s been too many years since I’ve fished them.
I can’t believe all the late spring snow thats been coming through. A friend of mine got stuck in LA for 3 days because of the blizzard in Denver. Talked to my ex-girl in D last night and she said it had already snowed again since the blizzard hit.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI use on of my favorite photos that I’ve shot.

Not FF related at all, but has that wonderful gritty, urban, flowing vibe that I love so much.
I’m starting a blog soon, and will be adding desktop backgrounds from my photography for people to download, so keep your eyes peeled. Some will be fly fishing related, some wont be.
http://chadsimcox.wordpress.com will be the location of the blog when it goes live.***BLOG NOW LIVE*** I posted 5 free desktop backgrounds featuring my photography if anyone is interested in using them. Because of this thread, 2 of the ones I posted are fly fishing related. They are designed for widescreen monitors and are at a resolution of 1440×900. That’s the only size for now.

Chad SimcoxMemberFor salt water, you want to make sure you’re using a reel that is machined aluminum from bar stock. Cast Aluminum reels are a bit porous and will get pitted and corrode from the salt.
After fishing, you’ll need to rinse and then soak your reel in fresh tap water for about 30min (I usually leave mine for a few hours or over night). It’s a good idea to give it another rinse afterwards too. Also, make sure you clean your rod as well as the salt can do a number on the epoxy coating if left untouched. Not to mention you’ll have an ugly white film of salt left on the rod.
For my salt water rod, I have an Albright XX 8wt. So far so good, I’ve just got to get used to casting the sink tip line.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.
