Chad SimcoxMemberReminded me of fishing the surf in the waters at the end of the runways of LAX.
I loved the dedication and how it showcased waters that are normally overlooked by anglers.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberLast I heard was that it is likely a land locked record, just awaiting certification from IGFA which takes a few months.

Chad SimcoxMemberYes the series follows Hunter as he trains with other competitive fly fishermen, in hopes to be able to make the US fly fishing team when he is of age.
I have only seen the first episode so far, but picked up some good info from it. I really liked the tip oh setting the hook.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberZach,
I have to say, you produce one of the best podcasts out there, both in terms of quality of production value and content. Yours hit a good length, but admittedly wish they were sometimes longer. Especially on that long drive moving from CA to CO! As a listener, your effort doesn’t go unnoticed.Bernie,
Also check out the Trout Unlimited podcast. They’re good, although sometimes a bit too short or flat on content.
I could add a few more podcasts to the list, but they wouldn’t be fly fishing related.I really wish Fish Schtick would go back in to production, it was a good one.

Chad SimcoxMemberI had an EWA Marine bag, and sold it (on this forum actually). I couldn’t get it to work well with the lenses I had at the time.
Now I’m really interested in the Outex housings. Going to wait until the Big O goes into production (it’s on kickstarter right now) and will likely buy that model.

Chad SimcoxMemberHey Tim,
I heard Sharkskin is going away, any truth to that? Or at least that you can speak of…?http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI have the case on my iphone5, but haven’t tested it. I got the case more of as a precaution rather than a water housing.

Chad SimcoxMemberWow, that’s awesome! I’m jealous; I wish I had known about them being there when I lived in mid TN. Are they limited to East TN or are they on the plateau as well?

Chad SimcoxMemberI’ve been running over kayak options lately and based only on internet research, I’ve decided that the Jackson Cuda 12 is my top choice. It appears to be very well thought out for usability of a fishing platform. Designed to be able to stand in yet have speed and good tracking you’d find in other kayaks. I like the high/low seating, storage design, rod stays, rod protectors, paddle holder, etc. It’s just a well designed fishing boat. Not to mention I like that I’d be supporting a company from my home state, with headquarters near one of my home waters while I was in college.
The downside is it’s weight. Loading it into my truck wouldn’t be tough but I wouldn’t want to port the boat by myself over rough terrain. But, the truth is, I’m not going to buy a boat without demoing first. And right now all the lakes and reservoirs here are iced up, so I’m in no rush.

Chad SimcoxMemberAlso, remember that hard drive connections will change over time. If this were 10-12 years ago, people would be advising you to save back ups on Jazz drive disks. The reader connected using a parallel port. When was the last time you saw one of those? USB1 and Firewire 400 has, for the most part, been phased out as well. So if you’re thinking drives (including the thumb drive option I mentioned) is a long term solution, just make sure you update the archives as technology transitions.

Chad SimcoxMemberIt’s going to be interesting to see how the fire up in the Big Thompson headwaters is going to affect the fishing down stream in the next few years…
Also getting a late start on building snowpack this year, run off may be done by the end of June, but it’s too early to tell.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI was cornered by one of their sales guys in store recently. He said they had just extended their contract with BPS for another 15 years or something like that.
It did seem like a “too good to be true” offer. Plus who wants to sit through a 2 hour time share sales pitch just to get $125 gift card? Doesn’t sound like a vacation to me.

Chad SimcoxMemberprints (though they’re not permenant and will fade over time) are pretty much a great option when stored in a fire safe. Also, if you’re saving images as JPG instead of RAW, why not store them on a USB thumb drive? Less chance of failure since there are no moving parts as compared to a hard drive.

Chad SimcoxMemberI can only recommend the obvious places to fish, but the upper Colorado in the park is really fun to fish. Lots of aggressive browns. Big Thompson is my favorite on the east side of the park. Don’t overlook N. Fork of St. Vrain (though it may be a bit out of the way while on bikes).
I’ll recommend Twisted Pine Brewery in Boulder, it always satisfies for good beer. Fuel up on at Big City Burrito when you’re in Ft. Collins.

Chad SimcoxMemberVery cool. My brother worked in the park streams this summer. Don’t want to hot spot, but sounds like lower Abrams would be a good place to check out. Also some of the west slope streams north of Gatlinburg.

Chad SimcoxMemberNice collection of shots. That’s one of my favorite regions to fish. I can’t believe how low the water is. I saw the first shot and instantly thought it was the Sinks, but I’ve never seen it flow that low.
As a note, I caught my first wild, southern Appalachian brookie at the sinks on a big size 12 wet fly.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI’ve only had unpleasant experience with Keens + wet wading. No traction at all once in the water, nearly broke my rod and my ass a few times from slipping around on the stream bed. My feet got tore up from sand and rock (decomposed granite) getting into them. I recently gave the damn things away, they were worthless to me for fishing.
However, I think Keen makes the best hiking boot around! They’re just not optimal for wet wading mountain streams.
I’ve had a pair of Solomon Techamphibians for about 6 or 7 years and they have proven to be my favorite hike in/wet wade footwear option. Just don’t wear them to the beach, fill them with sand, then go hike a few miles on a trout stream in them! Sandpaper texture + wet feet = a bad idea.
Just for the record, I’m not a fan of wet wading. Very rarely will I do it anymore.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.
