MemberWe found a couple of pools with fish and BD had one on but it was able to free itself before we could photograph it.
This was a complete shot in the dark and turns out this creek is very beautiful but probably not the best place to seek out your first Brookie.
My tourist shot of the Sinks.

Man this trail isn’t so bad.

Ok, so it’s a little steep.

About now we’re wondering if we’ve taken the wrong trail. Here BD is practicing his breathing technique which involves taking a deep breath and cursing every other word on the exhale. I tried it too and it works surprisingly well.

Quick snapshot from the top. Or so we thought….

Finally a Creek!

A well protected creek!

With some rewarding scenery.

Spring Tornado damage. The Little River area got hammered and there is alot more damage then I would have expected in such a mountainous area.
I would have assumed we were safe from tornados up there and probably would have gotten in trouble had I been there when the storms hit.

The Falls.

Here is BD doing his best River runs through it?

Here he is being BD and falling off the rock.

The Trail is in pretty decent shape with no real challenges except the elevation change.

Nice!!

No fish porn.
To be continued…..Higher res images.

MemberBlue lining for brook trout is fun – especially exploring a new area.
Really nice shots of that copperhead!

Steve K.MemberLove the reptile porn! Thanks Mike.
I fish the other side of the mountain (NC) quite a bit. I need to watch where I step. I had to laugh at the BD shots 🙂
Good stuff.

MemberThanks Steve. I wasn’t expecting to find any snakes out this late and I was plundering through the forrest with reckless abandon. I made sure to move it off the trail before we moved on.
BD is one of the smartest and hardest fishermen I know. When he walks away from a pool it’s safe to say there is no point in fishing it behind him. He’s also one of the clumsiest people I know. It’s always interesting when he’s around. Ask Zach about his Net job on a sizable Brown on the Cumby sometime. HA ha.
I’ve fished the NC side a little, mostly Snowbird and the Nan a little. A friend of mine has been doing some shocking over there to get some fish for the new Brook Trout hatchery. He tells me he has found a creek that has more Brookies then any creek he’s ever seen. We’ll be exploring that place more pretty soon.

Chad SimcoxMemberNice collection of shots. That’s one of my favorite regions to fish. I can’t believe how low the water is. I saw the first shot and instantly thought it was the Sinks, but I’ve never seen it flow that low.
As a note, I caught my first wild, southern Appalachian brookie at the sinks on a big size 12 wet fly.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

MemberThat’s cool Chad. I’m heading back as soon as I can break away from work today. Found a campground where I can store my RV for a $1 a day. I’ll be spending alot of time there in the next few months.

Chad SimcoxMemberVery cool. My brother worked in the park streams this summer. Don’t want to hot spot, but sounds like lower Abrams would be a good place to check out. Also some of the west slope streams north of Gatlinburg.

MemberIf I knew I had two days left in the vertical position, I would spend at least one of those days chasing brook trout in WNC.

MemberTook another shot at the Mtns but with a bad head cold I settled to fish the lower rivers for Rainbows.

DJ2A4486.jpg by FLY FISHING TN, on FlickrAfter spending just a little time in the park after hours I’ve learned that when you’re fishing and you hear something that sounds like a four legged animal… It’s probably just one of these. I’ve seen at least four of these now and only one Bear.

MemberI just can’t get into creative fishing photography. My fish shots are mostly just for the sake of documenting what and when. Fishing photography done right interferes with the fishing too much.
