MemberI know probably a weird time of year to be asking the question…but need to get my xmas list into the wife.
What do you guys wear on your feet when hiking and then wet wading? And what type of pants? I’ve been looking at the simms guides.??
Thanks for any help

MemberI wear Simms stuff. Guide boot felt sole, wet wading socks, and neopren guard socks over the wet wading socks.
For pants I wear something like their “superlight pants” or Patagonia makes similar pants with a drawstring if you don’t want to wear a belt.
I stuff my pant legs into the top of the wet wading socks. This is what works for me, keeps the sand and gravel out and my pant legs don’t hang up on stuff.
The Patagonia pants seem to drain water a little better than Simms.
The felt soles don’t last long with the hiking but I will not wear rubber soles as long as I don’t have to.

Bob RigginsMemberI use either a pair of Bite wading shoes or Keen H2’s depending on how much protection my feet need.

MemberBob, do the Colombia pants still have those nets on the inside like swimming trunks?
I tried Colombia years ago but found the liner or net a little too….restrictive.
Like I said its been years since I tried them (Colombia)but they also didn’t drain water like some others.

Bob RigginsMemberMost of the time I wear Columbia Snake River Shorts, which do have the netting.

Michael PhillippeMemberI’ve been wearing Mountain Khaki Granite Creek pants now for about three years. They dry really quickly and have lots of pockets – even zippered ones for car keys!

MemberThe Korkers Hyjack shoe is fantastic! http://www.korkers.com/footwear/multi-sport/hyjack.html … I really love mine. Being able to switch soles it pretty nice.
I’m also a fan of the Columbia pants.

Joel ThompsonMemberI would agree with Corey on the Hyjack shoe. I also use Keen sandals depending on where I am going.
As for pants go I use a variety of Simms pants but my absolute favorites are the Patagonia Gi III pants. http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/patagonia-mens-gi-iii-pants-34-inch-inseam-sun-protection?p=55030-0-176 they fit great and dry super fast.

MemberIf I wade over knee deep with any pants they of course fill with water.
When I get out the, water drains out slowly enough that my pant legs bulge over my socks to the point that they eventually come out.Not a big deal, just sort of a hassle. The Patagonia pants give me the least trouble with this.

When I get out the, water drains out slowly enough that my pant legs bulge over my socks to the point that they eventually come out.Oh. OK, I see what you are talking about draining water. I don’t tuck my pants leg in my socks, so that’s not an issue for me. I checked my Columbia pants. They are the kind that have a front fly and belt loops rather than the elastic waist type. The elastic waist type have the inside net, the kind I have do not.
The issue with felt soles is not traction but legality.

Chad SimcoxMemberI’ve only had unpleasant experience with Keens + wet wading. No traction at all once in the water, nearly broke my rod and my ass a few times from slipping around on the stream bed. My feet got tore up from sand and rock (decomposed granite) getting into them. I recently gave the damn things away, they were worthless to me for fishing.
However, I think Keen makes the best hiking boot around! They’re just not optimal for wet wading mountain streams.
I’ve had a pair of Solomon Techamphibians for about 6 or 7 years and they have proven to be my favorite hike in/wet wade footwear option. Just don’t wear them to the beach, fill them with sand, then go hike a few miles on a trout stream in them! Sandpaper texture + wet feet = a bad idea.
Just for the record, I’m not a fan of wet wading. Very rarely will I do it anymore.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

MemberI wear the NRS Boundary socks. They’re like waders for your lower legs! Wool socks go underneath and my wading boots go over the neoprene socks.
As for pants, I wanted something breatheable but tough, to protect my legs from poison ivy and thorny plants. I’ve been real happy with a pair of Blackhawk Tactical Pants.
Sorry I don’t have links. As a newbie I was informed I need at least three posts before I can include live links…
