plenty of good guides in that town. if you are going before July 1st, the bighole or beaverhead will be good options. if you go after july 1st, the madison will be a solid choice and is in your backyard. my buddy told me last summer that he lost more big fish last summer on the beaverhead than any other river and he guides for 5RL. there is always the jefferson, or if you can get on, the ruby which are great options. timing is everything out there so find a good guide and follow his reccomendations for your timeframe. i think joel thompson is somewhere out there, get ahold of him.

Bob, glacier is a solid days drive so unless you have lots of winshield time to kill you might want to look closer in. if you do have time, the drive is beautiful.

mike looks like a trip of a lifetime! did you get into any salmon?

that would be a deceiver with over sized epoxy eyes. I was shocked by how close it mimicked the action. I got the best action by kind of copying the hang time. It is money.

Interesting! do they dart erratically like an unweighted fluke?

Excellent work and welcome Wray. I myself am a flat water bass nut and I appreciate your post.

I myself split my time between a fly rod and conventional gear when bass fishing, but there is no time better spent fishing topwater on summer mornings or evenings

I am holding out for someone to develop a fly that has the action of a zoom super fluke

in reply to: Atlanta driving advice #48953

Thanks for all the advice gang, my plan is to leave Ohio at 3:00 am that puts me in Atlanta about 1:00 pm if all goes well. The only sticky thing this year will be that it’s the Friday of the long 4th of July weekend
    MS

Friday traffic starts lunch and holiday weekend Fridays are usually much worse as everyone is trying to get out of town. I would be prepared to sit for 1 hour + as you pass through. Also be careful where you stop on the south side of town, mainly between I-20 and the 75/85 split

I’m jealous man! I need a new carrier so that I can make more time to fish (and play guitar!)

I had a wedding to attend and yesterday went to the Hottest Braves game of the season so far temperature wise!

Nice fish Lauren, looks like you out fished Zach again!

Beautiful vessel sir! I need to take you up on your offer and row one soon!

Are you crafting your own oars as well?

FYI we are starting to hear big bugs buzzing down here, might be a little while on the river but its any day on the ponds for bucketmouths. I will let you know after this coming weekend!

My two go to saltwater flats lines are the SA Mastery Bonefish taper and the SA Mastery Redfish taper.  For presentation I use the Bonefish, but for distance and big flies I use the Redfish.  I have not used any of the textured lines yet.

Bob, I have heard many SA guys push the Redfish first, I think that it must be a ringer for 15 mph winds.

I have the sharkskin on my helios 8wt but i do not know what taper it is. That combo of helios/sharkskin is tough to beat though

Great fish man! Did you get to use the new(old) rod?

in reply to: Shooting head #48223

I thought this was another Bil Laden thread.

    I just sprayed my monitor

Stuart, Amnesia? is a great running line as well but after using shooting heads i have to agree with Tim P, because I hate the feeling of loops going through the guides. The streamer express or outbound lines will give you the same effect without the hassles of launching a knot through your guides at mach 5

Maybe we can grow some bigger browns on the hooch now that there might not be stockers for them to eat off of anymore

nice work mike! I was thinking about you the other day when i was staring at this yellow vessel on my porch that has yet to be fished out of. The Jet sled has been one electrical issue after another lately but we will have to hit the water soon
