MemberJoel great trip from the looks of it! Looks like the lady outfished you also!
Speaking of gear, can you imagine the trout pioneers of the 70’s hiking and fishing there with 8 ounce Fenwick ferralites, pfluger medalists, 333 double taper and wading in old bluejeans! we are blessed with the technical gear of today

Memberthe LPS’s were great dry fly rods, hopefully things will improve for them business wise

MemberI watched it and forever lost an hour of my life! I’ve been fishing a lake lately in Pike County that supposedly has alligators on it but we have not yet had any spottings. Needless to say, my dog will not be accompanying me!

MemberI’ve got a LL 490-2 that I love, but bringing it on a plane is problematic and I will not check rods so it stays behind when I go out west (built a 9′ 4wt 4pc on a Forecast blank and I like that almost as much). Once we get moved out to Montana, the Sage will come out again.
Regards,
ScottWhich forecast blank was it?

MemberOne note on the LL’s. I’m pretty sure replacement sections for the series are unavailable from Sage. If you break one you are pretty much out of luck on a replacement.
I quit using mine for boat or canoe fishing and reserve it for special occasions. Boats are pretty tough on rods.Graphite II cannot be replaced
Graphite III can!you can tell rods that have been replaced because the logo says SAGE LL in large letters vs. SAGE then 389LL with no Large LL behind the sage. FYI if you are looking on ebay for one that says “new” its probably been replaced under warranty

MemberMike, thats a great looking boat!

Member3-4 is accurate. you will slide over most of the time anyways. I wouldnt get carried away with draft, most modern drifters are 100% better than boats of old and besides you cant row in 3″ very well anyways

Memberseth, i built a 379 LL years ago and i love it for small streams. I use a DT3 on medium water and a DT4 for brookies with 10′ or less casts. Im not trying to plug my stuff but i really like the spl’s better in the 4 & 5 wts. I have owned a 4711 graphite II and a 586 graphite II and they were great rods. My favorite sages are 279 & 379 LL for brookies, 389 LL or 489 SPL for spring creeks (i swear they both cast a 4wt line identical!) and the 490 LL is a killer dry fly rod that from boats. If i were in your shoes and were to by only one LL it would be a 2 piece 389. they were a mere 2.5 oz and cast like butter. you wont care if you are not catching fish they are so much fun to cast!
Bill hall bought my 586 gen II LL years ago and I wish he would sell it back to me. It was my favorite of the LLs

MemberCall Robert Eddens at RO and he can get you going. They also have a good used selection of RO skiffs and South Fork Skiffs. I had a South fork skiff with a honda 5hp and i got rid if it in lieu of a G3 jet because it did not perform well with the motor, nor has any driftboat that i have ridden in. they just arent designed to be motored and the result is a maximum speed of about 5mph and they steer terrible. There’s no “best for all” boat so you just have to evaluate what is more important to you and go from there.
After owning a similar raft to yours and then a skiff and now an aluminum jet, i will say that it is the most versatile by far.

Memberif it was a quality reel and you could save $100 on a manufactured package without having to mail a rebate in i would be inclined

MemberSorry, i confused this with a speech at the show next weekend, i need to read better.
I don’t think my intent was to imply that the GWFF would be taking up guiding on the hooch.
besides everyone knows that the best striper fishing on the hooch is down where kent edmonds is on the south side of town anyways.
Keith, Interesting on the polarized eyes, never heard that. I will say that i once caught one on a 90 degree bluebird day a few summers ago in early afternoon. If anything, they are hard to predict! and don’t hold true to patterns that everyone thinks.
Zach, I hooked my first striper in the DH section back in 2004. He took down a 9″ stocker and flew past me. It was over in about 5 seconds.

MemberBrett, That looks like the trip of a lifetime! I would take any one of those fish on any given day, especially on a dry!
