I’m heading to Belize next month and I recently picked up a 9wt X2S for permit and heaver files.

I know that this rod has a softer tip so I was wondering what line you guys would recommend to mesh well with a rod like this for flats work

I have no shame.  We have several X2s rods here that I’ve used to test lines with.  All of these perform great on that rod series.

My two go to saltwater flats lines are the SA Mastery Bonefish taper and the SA Mastery Redfish taper.

    Tim, Thanks for the response

My two go to saltwater flats lines are the SA Mastery Bonefish taper and the SA Mastery Redfish taper.  For presentation I use the Bonefish, but for distance and big flies I use the Redfish.  I have not used any of the textured lines yet.

Bob, I have heard many SA guys push the Redfish first, I think that it must be a ringer for 15 mph winds.

I have the sharkskin on my helios 8wt but i do not know what taper it is. That combo of helios/sharkskin is tough to beat though

I use SA Bonefish lines most of the time, but also the SA Redfish for snag bashing and the SA Striper IV as a sinking line. Others that match well are the Bermuda Triangle Taper Ghost Tip and Airflo Ridge Tarpon.

The X2S is a pretty versatile rod, they will handle a wide variety of lines and flies – and they are tough, too. I have fond memories of the #9:

    Adam,

I have the same rod and used it in the same place!

I like the Teeny Chard Permit line in 9wt. I loaned it to a buddy who is a much better angler than me for a Bahamas trip a couple of years ago and he picked up the exact rig when he got home.

Broke my 11wt X2s at the first ferrule on a Permit over the Elbow. Those fish pull hard…

I’ll be back there in July. Have fun dude, it’s awesome down there.
