I don’t know anything about that rod, but I do like the quality I have seen in the USA made Orvis rods. IMO they are crafted as good as any from what I have seen. I am a big Orvis fan and I can’t help it. This week I plan to buy a 10 wt Battenkill BBS with a free spare spool. The BBS 10 wt is only 5.oz where the reel I use now is about 10oz.

Chevrolet full size Z71 with a high top camper shell has done the job of Truck/RV nicely for me for the last 6 years. I use it to pull a fairly heavy center console boat as well as getting a smaller boat in and out of some nasty less traveled places.
Big Plano plastic tackle box works good for me. You can’t carry it with you wading but I can’t think of a time I needed big honkin flies when I was wading.
About $4 at Wally World.I bet I get over a 100 fishing publications a year. Cabelas started sending me hardback editions of their master catalogs 2 a year. I also keep the master catalogs of most retailers and look back to see price increases, model changes, and prices for discontinued items I buy/sell on Ebay from time to time. For the most part however, the internet has replaced my magazine reading time.
I know the period where they switch from rod to cone vision or vice versa is a tough time to catch anything. I think some further R&D is in order. My biggest concern in the summer is that darned fog. It gets so thick in the summer that you could get real turned around if you weren’t careful.
My Dancraft SigV’s are thin walled 53 million modulus and are very light. I usually try to go with a reel that is a size or two smaller to keep it as light as possible
BTW I just finished a 8’4″ 3/4 SigV that I think could be the best small Trout rod I have ever held ($93 blank). I’m using it with 3wt line currently but I was told it really shines as a 4wt. I may go with a nice DT 4wt on the spare spool just to see.

I think the simplest point to take from such an article is that building a rod that is as light as is practical will reduce fatigue (that’s what all that inertia you have to overcome from the extra weight causes, fatigue).
‘Balancing’ a fly rod isn’t possible, and adding additional ‘weight’ to that end is not productive OR helpful when you consider CASTING the rod. How you ‘hold’ it while fishing is awefully subjective and there are several variables, but I’d argue with confidence that adding the weight required to ‘balance’ a nine foot fly rod to horizontal in any ‘static’ situation would be more destructive to effective casting AND generate more fatigue over a fishing day than having the lightest practical outfit.
Old ideas die hard. Even here, where you’d expect this to be common knowledge.
Here is what I look for in a guide. Good fish catching ability.

Makers Mark has been my favorite Bourbon lately but I change often.
At home I really like good vodka in any kind of mixed drink. Viking Fjord is pretty good and cheap but Absolute is about as good as any IMO. Grey Goose SUCKS.
In the wine category I like Principato Merlot.
I want to know whats up with Simms bringing back rubber? Their packs, jackets, etc. Are $400 rubber waders in next years lineup? What was wrong wrong with Gore-tex? I guess they want to see just how cheap they can make stuff and still get some people to buy it…
The second jacket you posted looks like a crab fishermans slicker with some bling bling hanging off it.
Of course my William Joesph costal pack is pretty darned goofy too…

I have the Cabelas Gore tex and it is a nice jacket. Never let me get wet. I have a dry plus parka that I can say the same about. Cabelas has been good stuff to me.
Simms might be better and for what it costs it sure as hell better be. Both are most likely made in the same factory in China.
Funny aint it. You can get a conventional reel that can handle 1000 pound saltwater fish for about what it takes to buy a Ross 3 wt.
Do you think they stay in the shallow water until Feb or so? I was under the impression these fish were getting ready to spawn since the temps were 45 and Muskie Spawn around 50. I have heard of Cave Run many times. In fact I once pondered doing a guide trip up there just so I could catch my first Muskie. Have you fished it before?
