I think I’m on just about every major fly fishing catalog mailing list there is. I love it. Gets me excited about the new fishing season.
I have a fond affection for LL Bean (my first rod was an LL Bean Double L). I am excited to see that they have reintroduced a cane rod to their line up.
The Fly Shop catalog is wonderful for–well–the flies. I’ve kept all of my issues
I also really enjoy all of the catalogs. I just got L.L. Bean and Feather-Craft today.
I know I don’t have great control of the English language and shouldn’t be criticizing anyone, but the incessant use of quotations in the Feather-Craft catalog really irritates me for some reason. I wonder who in the heck edits them.
I like the Feather Craft catalogs too. A long gone favorite was the Bass Pond catalogs.
The catalog I have zero use for is J Fisher. What’s the point? They don’t bring anything special to the dance… just another ‘me-too’. Glossier than most but that’s about it.
Looking through everything in the catalog to find out if human beings own the place draws a blank!
My all-time favorites though were the Gary LaFontaine catalogs. You could spend hours reading and re-reading some of the great tid-bits he injected into that.
I bet I get over a 100 fishing publications a year. Cabelas started sending me hardback editions of their master catalogs 2 a year. I also keep the master catalogs of most retailers and look back to see price increases, model changes, and prices for discontinued items I buy/sell on Ebay from time to time. For the most part however, the internet has replaced my magazine reading time.
