Funny thing about cats…

Hey guys-
Another off topic point but funny. Lauren and I have a cat, named Joey. Currently he is our only housemate (we are looking at each getting a dog in the next year. She wants a big terrier, I want a bird dog).
Now Joey is a pretty ordinary cat, a bit on the biggish side, a bit on the pretty side, but otherwise your average mutt. He has never displayed particular intelligence, but neither is he especially stupid.
We’ve trained him to come to a whistle, which some people find remarkable, but with cats you have to keep up the positive enforcement and we haven’t been very good about that. Now he comes to a whistle only when there’s the plausibility of food. Nothing remarkable in it except his good judgment as to when food might be in the offering.
Tonight we noticed something hilarious. Every night, Joey gets fed at around the time we go to bed. This makes him full and sleepy and reduces his tendency to wander around and make noise at night. Regardless of whether his dish has food in it, I fill it to the top. Lauren does the same. Some days Joey eats more than others but in general food is his favorite thing in the universe. Thus, we noticed that he has begun frantically downing everything in his bowl the minute we enter the kitchen anywhere around feeding time.
