MemberI went Muskie fishing last Sun and did pretty good. I got two 5 pounds +- to the boat and hooked several more, two of which were double digit fish that cut 20# fluro like butter. I was using spinning gear and live sucker minnows mainly because I wanted to see if there were Muskie in the river and secondly because there were 30 mph winds that day. The folks over at Fly Fisherman are now helping me get a fly fishing trip together for Muskie and I think judging from some of their posts, it won’t be too hard to get one on the fly. Anybody here have any experience with Muskie on the fly?

Salient points first: Where the hell can you catch Muskie in Tennessee?
You might try your question on Upper Midwest Flyfishing, as well, since they have lots of muskies up there.

MemberOne thing you will find out the more you get to know me is that I love to fish for anything and everything. We are truly blessed here in TN with a very diverse fishery including plenty of Muskie places. When you’re ready I’ll show you one of them.

MemberWhat I really should have said was when I am ready. I only caught my first one last Sun and I caught it with unclean, unholy, foul, spinning gear using live bait. Only the devil himself could have done a worser thing. Hehehe.
Don’t worry when I get a opening I’ll give you a shout. Here is a shot of my fishing buddy on Sun. These photos look very good edited and cropped but photo bucket kills those edits. I’ll post them again once I save the edits to a new file. You just don’t run into a Red Fox everyday.

Heh – I actually have a red fox living up the road from my house, so as a matter of fact, I DO run into a red fox every day. In truth, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I tend to see him every few weeks whenever I happen to be driving home relatively late in the evening. Mike’s fox was photographed in far more scenic surroundings though. Of course, I’ve never seen one out in the middle of the day before, so Mike’s fox probably was insane or had rabies or something.
As far as Zach’s question about where to catch Muskie in Tennessee, actually quite a few of Tennessee highland reservoirs have at least small populations. I’ve never really fished for them, but I have heard Melton Hill has some great muskie fishing. Fred McClintock catches some monsters on Dale Hollow pretty regularly, though I understand it’s mostly done by deep-water trolling. I have been told that Center Hill, Watauga, and Kentucky Lake have at least a few here and there as well. I assume Norris does too – at least it used to, since that’s where the state record comes from.

MemberHey BD, do you think Boga Grips would be a good idea for handling these fish

MemberCave Run lake here in Kentucky has some HUGE Musky. They go into shallow water in early Oct. so the chances of sight casting to one is really good. They like to short strike so a trailer hook is a good idea. I think the #1 guide for them is Crashes Landing. Goggle that and you’ll find him. Good numbers and shallow water gives the flyfisher a much better chance at a monster http://www.crashslanding.com

MemberDo you think they stay in the shallow water until Feb or so? I was under the impression these fish were getting ready to spawn since the temps were 45 and Muskie Spawn around 50. I have heard of Cave Run many times. In fact I once pondered doing a guide trip up there just so I could catch my first Muskie. Have you fished it before?
