With the floods going on right now I heard that Bass Pro (which is under water) had a fleet of brand new boats headed down the Cumberland unmanned.

I was out during the storms seeing how the birds were dealing with the weather. I found the Flicker at home and he even gave me a decent shot as he left the house. He had no idea how lucky he was for leaving when he did. I was watching the tree waiting for him to return when a gust of wind hit and broke his tree right where he had made a hole. Had he been in the hole he wouldn’t have made it. I don’t know if it had any young or not. I’ll go back soon and see what becomes of this guy.

This is what is left of his home…

I almost got him. I Took these with the Sigma 70-200 ex dg. It’s not an L lens but it isn’t that bad until I can get one.  The image difference between 1 and 2 is flash.

    Looks better bigger

As usual John great info. You have a knack for both the art of photography and helping others perfect it. Thanks!

I don’t use the semi auto modes that often either but yesterday I was just trying to see what the camera would do with that shutter speed and what the higher ISO’s would look like. I pretty much knew it wouldn’t budge from 5.6 and all it could adjust was the ISO. I’m still

I have a front seat at the front door of this couple. Went again today but I was cut short when both my spare batteries were dead! Note to self, move charger away from where wife can inadvertently unplug it and always verify the LED is solid before removing battery…. We had solid cloud cover and very soft light today. Would have been a high ISO shoot but the animals were in rare form..
As I walked away the Male Mallards were all lined up overhead doing touch and go landings as is they were auditioning for a Top Gun movie. I just shook my head and walked back to the car.

Here are a few I did get before it died. Nothing spectacular but I was wanting to experimant using TV mode and auto ISO. I set the SS at 1/1250  and the ISO worked out to about 1000 to 1250. Noise isn’t that bad unless you want to crop.. What do you all think is the lowest SS to catch BIF?

We throw #12 PT’s and small clousers in the afternoon. These fish get very aggressive in the afternoon.

Hey thanks for that info Scott I’ve always wondered what the yallarhammer name was all about. Now it makes sense.

Sounds like a great day out.

in reply to: Finally some Wood Ducks I like #70660

John that 400l is a sweet lens but man it would be a monster with IS. I’ve got my eye on the 500 F$$$ but it may take awhile to justify that purchase. Good advise thanks. This is much harder then I ever thought it to be.. I’m having a great time learning though.

If you can I’d love to see your wood duck shots.

Great shots Jason. Shooting fish underwater is pretty tough.

Yes we do register our boats and they do get a portion of that money but I don’t think it’s alot.

We’ve been having a similar discussion on my board Zach. One of the problems or gripes I have is that our lakes have become pretty much off limits during boating season. Here in TN we pay a pretty hefty price for a fishing license and each year it becomes harder and harder to fish because of all the pleasure boaters. The DNR is also responsible for patrolling the lakes but receives little funding from the Pleasure boating community. I’d like to see them do away with a fishing license and make it all inclusive so that ANYONE in ANY type boat has to contribute equal amounts. And yes that would include canoes, rafts, inner tubes, etc… It’s about time the river tubing business’s started paying to use the resource as well.

    Wow very nice!

#1 is amazing. Is it close to the raw image or is there alot of PP on that one. If you don’t mind me asking…

in reply to: Still no fishing,, but I did find these #70608

At one time I was wading but most were taken from our Pontoon boat. It was a family day and my fishing boat is still in the shop.

    Some better light today.

Thanks! Hopefully soon the water will warm and I’ll get some scaly subjects to shoot.

For me Fly fishing shots got boring and  birding leaves me pulling my hair out. I never seem to have enough zoom or light or both!! This year I’ll bait them with food HA! I was looking for something new and the old abandoned stuff is fun, plentiful, and pretty easy.

I think I’ll order the tiffen 77mm NGD filter and play around with that a little. For a budget the 77mm seems to be a pretty good deal since all my L glass and future L purchases are 77mm.

    Any input on NGD’s???

I have CS4 but not lightroom. CS4 has been a pain to learn and has more features then I usually need. A3 is so easy to pick up that I’ve all but quit messing with CS4. I can’t comment on LR but from what I’ve read the two programs are similar.

Neal have you ever tied on the Tiemco SP hooks? For a big fly that needs to penetrate the 600SP is in a class all on it’s own. Bill Butts turned me on to them couple years ago and I’m convinced they improved my hookup by at least 60% from the Gama’s. If you haven’t tried them you should.

Well I finally got my files moved over. I just had to export on folder at a time. I sat down again with this program after a birthday party last night. I just can’t say enough good about it. If anyone is new to computer photo editing and has a Mac, GET THIS PROGRAM!
