MemberI agree it looks very nice.
To me PS seems expensive.
I pay around $140 a year for a site (not photography) with a dedicated ip, SSL and 150 gig of space. Am I far off in my assumption that you could learn flash or hire someone to do the flash and come out much cheaper by doing your own hosting?Mike Anderson
MemberYea I’ve had the Tennessean news paper ask to use some stuff last year but when I mention pay, any pay, they immediately lost interest. Sad.

MemberSuperb.

MemberAlso, you know I was kidding about the fast glass, because I have never met a bird photographer that didn’t covet the long fast glass.
I hover a mouse over the add to cart button button everyday… ;D
Then reality sets in.
Critique is always welcome and why I post them here. I don’t mind it at all Neal.

MemberThose are very nice Adam. I wish I had a location to shoot like that then maybe then I’d do more fishing stuff then I do nature.

MemberThanks guys!
Neal the hawk and heron shots were taken in direct sunset light that was a very yellow light. In person it looked pretty cool but on the monitor I didn’t like it as much. They were shot in Raw so I did do some color, contrast, WB, and sharpen, adjustments. I don’t recall how heavy I got with them but since there isn’t alot of color in the pics I didn’t think I made them bleed.
On the heron I think I played with the water to make it look less muddy colored. I’ll look at the raws when I get in and see. Thanks for the CC btw.
So far from my experience the difference in IQ and sharpness with the 400 5.6 + 1.4 is so minimal that I can’t see it. It does take some light and a steady hand but it’s a very capable combo. Keep in mind these shots are hand held, non stabilized lens, at 730mm.
I may own the 500 F4 IS someday but right now it’s low on the priority list.Mike Anderson
MemberI agree Zach and that was my point also. I think an exception would be a newcomer to the sport. To them these things are like gospel.

Ok, it can also have a Winston BIIX sticker too. To me those two rods just feel the way I think a med trout rod should feel.Mike Anderson
MemberI don’t get these shootouts. No two people cast exactly alike. What one guy likes another guy doesn’t. All I want to know is is it a True 5 wt, how good is the warranty,

MemberNice work! I especially like Jacob’s cover. Was that Snowbird?
Mike Anderson
MemberI still have it and use it for some stuff (I like the skin soften brushes on A3 better) but for the most part I’ve switched over to Lightroom 3. The Noise removal on LR3 is what finally made me make the switch, it’s a clear winner in that category.
IMO Both programs are very similar but after using both I think LR is a little cleaner and better organized.Mike Anderson
MemberSo how reliable is Time Machine? One of our network admins at work recently converted to Mac at home and he was extremely impressed with TM. This is a guy who is responsible for maintaining and backing up massive amounts of production, EPA, and regulatory, data for three major automotive manufacturing facilities. Judging from his enthusiasm I assumed it must be pretty solid.

MemberGood to know I guess I’ll get another 500g external to back up my photo drive.

MemberI’m not offended Ben just trying to learn all I can.
FWIW my iMac is LED or at least it said so on the box. It was the main reason I switched to mac.
Mike Anderson
MemberBen are you referring to the apple LED monitors on the imac? Mine is nothing short of amazing.

MemberI use a lumiquest softbox that is collapsible. It works pretty well. My flash also has a built in bounce card that works well when I don’t have anything.

MemberProblem resolved. PM on the way.

MemberI have experience with it in a industrial environment Zach. We used to use it alot in our plant but finally gave it up because of serious reliability issues. In an all metal plant with microwaves at every snack location we were constantly tracking down issues with RF and interference. It was a daily grind… We even once went as far as building wooden “dog houses” around some of the problem readers and lining them with some kind of space age stealth foam. It didn’t work. Considering that we had millions invested it took an act of congress to finally move away from it to another system that is almost 100% reliable. I can’t talk about that system except to say that it also wouldn’t work for fish. In short my opinion on RFID systems is that they work fine in very controlled environments but outside of that IMO it’s a crap shoot.

MemberChad WalterHill has some Carp spawning in the spring but they are near impossible to catch at that time. The much more fun thing to do then is the buffalo run and a big clouser. About 30% eat the fly and the rest get fouled (they are a trash fish). Either way its something you won’t ever forget. Most fish are at least 7 pounds and several 12 to 20’s. I get sore Arms every year.
I don’t mind at all John, I was hoping you’d chime in. Keep in mind you have some fast glass. I’m using 5.6 and F4 for the most part. 3200 should get most everything I do and 3200 is very clean comparatively speaking. Nice Buck by the way.
When I look at the end result compared to the bodies I’ve owned it’s nothing short of amazing to me. I’m aware that some of the nikon bodies have great high iso performance too.
I haven’t had alot of time with the camera but what I time I have had with it it’s obvious that this camera is heads and shoulders above anything I’ve ever owned. Not just the ISO but the WB and the metering as well. My histograms have never looked so even and the auto WB so far has been spot on, at least to my eye. I’m pretty excited to revisit all the things I love to shoot this year. The biggest gripe I have so far is that you have to buy all new accessories. I’m looking for an L plate for it and there just aren’t any to be found on the used market.
BTW, most of those were straight out of the camera.
Here’s one with a little LR touch up. This Turkey was hiding behind the tree. He wasn’t hiding from me but from the 15 mph 5 degree windchill…
