MemberIt is legal to keep fish there you know. An 100% of those fish are from hatchery smolts. Not going to get into a debate here but therecis very little natural reproduction on those creeks.
Yup, I agree. I wasnt trying to start a fire around keeping or not keeping a fish. I was merely poking fun at the tacky picture of a strung up fish. I think the picture of the first steelhead I ever caught has 13-year-old me holding up the fish by the a bright yellow stringer. Nothing like having your first steelhead photo involve a bleeding fish and an ugly stringer. Not one I keep on the fridge at least.
Keep the fish, who cares. Just take the picture without the stringer first.
Thanks for sharing the report, Brandon.

MemberAndrew,
If the drake ever comes back on-line, you need to check out the thread “Pimp-my Gheenoe” (something like that) posted by TxFly (now maybe Tex).

MemberAre you willing to move to outside Detroit to spend most of your day directing factory workers? What if you had to put in two years in BFE, Alabama, first? (Oh, and you’ll need to be quite smart, have an advanced degree in engineering, and be willing to work for an hourly wage with no benefits). If that sounds like a great job, boy have I got an opportunity for you!
🙂
Zach
Huh, sounds familiar.
As cool as it sounds, there isnt one guy who gets to try new lines all day. Most of the lines are made and shipped to reps, guides, and other fish-heads to try out and get Voice of Customer.
Back to the Rio carp line. I am sure it is sweet for carp and designed for carp fishing situations (warm water, delicate presentations…). But I would never spend 70 dollars for a carp line when my GPX, Magnum, Grand, Bass Taper, 40+, and Wind Cutter II do the same thing.

MemberFrom a business point of view, making fly lines is very capital intensive. Designing and setting up the big machines that do the work can cost a bunch. And with any new taper, the machines must at least be recalibrated if not redesigned and rebuilt. So the cost of the lines must cover the cost of R&D, design, manufacture, etc. Rio may be trying to recoup some of those costs with the line price.
Actually, it’s not capital intensive to design a new taper. 90% of the money/time would be spent fishing/tweaking the new taper.

MemberDoes the flo-max commercial upset you too?
Tim Pommer
MemberWhy all of the ill will here today?
I think Zach was just poking a litte fun, and it is upsetting to see your passion completely screwed up on something like a commercial.I remember a commercial Doug Flutie dis a few years back and he was walking across a football field with “actors” trying to attempt football type drills and it was the funniest thing I have ever seen about football.
I am not passionate about football, but I have a hard time watching movies about baseball and teaching because they usually get so much stuff wrong.I know exactly what you mean Zach, maybe some other light hearted guys will chime in.
No ill will or cold-heartedness here Keith.

MemberIs the Popular Mechanics article much different than what already happens every time a new guy walks into a fly shop? As soon as the guy behind the counter catches wind of a newb, they pounce like a fricken lion and start trying to sell Tibors and high end rods. I have never seen a fly shop try to sell an SA starter kit. Hell, most fly shops dont carry them.
Tim Pommer
MemberThe thing I hate most about fly fishing are fly fisherman who think they are better than everyone else.
Tim Pommer
MemberNotice the mixed flavor bag, that’s proven most effective at attracting the biggest fish.
Sure as hell didnt prove out that day.
