I’ve thought about doing something similar with one of the hexagon shaped acrylic tanks and mounting a ballhead in the bottom. Should work for the half and half shots…..I’m thinking.

My favorite catch of 2008 was not exactly MY catch. I was able to take my 16 year old son on his first trip to Alaska. We saw some amazing stuff and he caught the biggest trout of his life. Shortly after he landed the fish, we had to vacate the run due to another fisherman with very poor manners.
Clear Sally Hansen’s “Hard As Nails” fingernail polish in lieu of head cement. For those times when you don’t feel like driving to the flyshop for the real stuff.
I’ve found goose biots and maribou at Michael’s craft store for a fraction of the cost.
Nice find Mike. The tarpon chapter is bad ass! Doode is getting it done in his float tube……..who says you need a $30K flats skiff. 🙂

I’d suggest a tailrace for this weekend since the weather is turning cold again. If it must be Georgia, the Toccoa would be the ticket. If you’ll drive another hour or so, the Tuck and Nantahala DH would be a good bet.

What David and Zach said. I was going to mention the gravel road from Wears Valley to Metcalf. Nice drive.
You could also access Cades Cove/Abrams Creek for wildlife viewing and fishing. And if you feel the need….close enough for a foray over the gap to the land of rubber tomahawks.

I’d also vote for the Nikon 18-200VR. Great lens that can handle a lot of situations.
KEH.com has a used one in excellent condition on their website for $525. I’ve only heard good things about dealing with KEH.

Very good thread as I’m about to take the Stormfront plunge.
My thoughts:
For strictly boat use with a DSLR….the Pelican or Great Divider is probably the way to go. Virtually indestructable and waterproof (though there are exceptions). When mobility is not important I think this is the way to go.
For wade-fishing with a DSLR….some type of backpack is almost a necessity. In AK I’ve used a Dryzone 200 and this past summer….a generic day pack with a custom made foam sleeve (sleeping pad foam and duct tape). The foam sleeve slid down into a roll-top dry bag. The dry bag goes into the day pack. Effective …but a hassle to quickly get the camera out. The Dryzone was just too heavy and cumbersome while fishing. I found myself taking it off and laying it on a gravel bar while fishing. Not a wise move while in grizzly country.

Those photos could be titled, “Three Inches of Snow in Six Inches of Grass”. Nice use of the depth of field……needs a little more saturation though. Glad you made it through!

I’ve had so many basal cells removed….I’ve lost count. Like Neal and my Doc said…this damage was done 20 years ago. I don’t know if it can be attributed to ozone depletion but….it seems skin cancer is much more prevelant nowadays.
Good luck Neal….and tell the Doc to stitch it up tight….you might get an impromptu facelift out of this deal.
