I’ll second Wears Valley. My extended family gets a cabin/chalet in that area every other year for Christmas and my favorites are always the ones in Wears Valley. You can take the back way into the park and be on Little River at Metcalf Bottoms in 5 minutes. The Townsend area is nice also and a little farther from the craziness known as Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
