I’m digging #1 as well. In my amatuer opinion it would make a nice cover for a canoe magazine/article with ample area for titles, etc.

I have a DSLR and am really looking for a compact P&S that will shoot in RAW, VR, etc. Hopefully the camera is small enough to go in a vest pocket. I’m also looking at the Canon G10.

I keep saying I’m gonna photograph the Yallarhammer I purchased from Clampett’s Hardware in Bryson City in the late 70’s. I still have it stashed in an old flybox.
Zach…you are right…the version I have….which I would assume is a close interpretation of the original has a thicker hackle than the one you’ve tied (although I like your version as well). My guess is the pattern is effective because of the abundance of yellow stoneflies and sulphurs.
I think the woodpecker you’ve mentioned is the Yellow Flicker:

Thanks……I’ve got a few more pics but they are a little redundant. Glass cloth, Interlux and a hatch door were ordered today. Barring any screw ups….the interior should be completed by next weekend. I’ll post the completed interior then. My son still hasn’t decided on an exterior color/finish. It’s on him.
I need to know how you and Andrew did the splatter technique for the interior???
Long story short, H decided to switch teams after witnessing his mother’s success.

The dinky trailer bunks are replaced with a more masculine six-foot bunk in hopes that a heavy 4-stroke will adorn the transom of this craft.
The front deck is glassed in. I chose to make it a little lower to keep the center of gravity low. Still….a good clean, uncluttered deck that should make a great resting place for excess flyline. An access hatch is available to allow for the storage of the anchor and rope along with copius amounts of tackle, food and beverage.

The previous owner used latex paint on the interior….so a little strippage was in order.
Ignoring child labor laws….I put the kid to work with the grinder.
Dry storage amidship….experimenting with redneck composite construction…..a layer of foam board sandwich between two pieces of luan with epoxy holding it together. Compressive strength is quite impressive! We’re thinking that the compartment should have good insulating properties because of the foam…..hence this will be dubbed…..”Fat Tire storage”.
A twenty-plus year old piece of foam is removed. The final version now has more cubic feet of foam than the original boat.
The rear deck is in place….with an opening for the gas tank and the ubiquitous cupholders.
It has been progressing nicely. The back deck pieces are cutuout and waiting to be glassed in. The dry box is already glassed in. I have a bunch of photos and will get them uploaded shortly.
Yeah….we were always told to pack enough extra food for another day or two…..just in case the weather socks you in. You’d be amazed though….those bush pilots will fly in most any weather. My first trip to the Alagnak was in a Dehavilland Beaver. the weather was so bad that we flew about 75 miles at an altitude of 400 feet. I asked the pilot if he had an IFR rating. He said yes, “I Follow Rivers”

I’ve never fished Kodiak but have hit some of the other areas. I’ve found that timing is everything in AK. The silvers might not be there today, but tomorrow they may pour into the river. I usually target the huge rainbows and September and October are primo times for that.
If I could offer any advice it would be…..make sure you have a quality pair of breathable waders, a top notch Gore tex jacket, fleece jacket, synthetic stocking cap and a set of polypro underwear. It often rains all day, everyday and you literally wear your waders and jacket from the moment you go outside in the morning until you head inside in the evening.
It’s gonna rain….so expect it and don’t let it “dampen” your spirits.
Oh yeah….floatplanes are the shiz! My favorite part of the trip.

Those streams you named get hit pretty hard with hopper patterns. If your favorite hopper doesn’t doesn’t work…..try a small black ant pattern. I also tend to have better success with terrestrials when the wind is blowing….duh.

From a Dad’s point of view….you gave him a Father’s Day he’ll always remember. I spent the afternoon with my youngest son….working on his Gheenoe. One-on-one with Dad is always special.
Andrew……what product will you use to paint the hull? I see you are going to spray as opposed to the “roll and tip” method.

I’m working from memory here….but I think it is 36 minutes in length. I ordered mine from Amazon. Make sure you get the NTSC version if you are in the U.S.

Right now I’m thinking 8hp Go Devil type motor for two reasons. I bought this boat/trailer for my 17 year old. He can use the mud motor in the river w/o worring about rocks and shear pins. Secondly, he will not have to deal with oil/gas mixtures. We’re talking teenager here.
