MemberTook the family out for the 4th. We decided a hike into the upper stretches of a northeastern Arizona stream would be a nice break from the chaos and heat of big the big city.
Having small ones with you requires careful trip planning. A three year olds bladder and shelf-life for a car seat is limited to hour intervals-max.
Our first stop was a midway point between small mining towns. The World’s Smallest Museum(self-proclaimed)

Point of interest inside this tiny showroom are a few antiques and photos of past local visitors.

Stop two came forty-five minutes later. Now I know folks here prefer the food shot, but I tend to snap pictures of the folks making the food or somehow get into the mix myself and have someone else click the shutter. Here is a nice little shot of the double-guns endorsement provided by one of Ronald’s chosen.

Sparing you the last couple stops and getting pee’d on, here is the results of my wife’s first series of casts.

Long story short, H decided to switch teams after witnessing his mother’s success.

“Geesh mom, I can cast on my own.”

And, boy can he!

Nap time came quickly and we placed the two little ones under a shady tree behind the deepest pool we could find.

Upon inspection of the riparian vegetation we decided on the bug to use.

Seemed to work out okay

Hey ESPN, these guys are really small and unless they make your bucket list you shouldn’t bother.

Not a single person on the stream besides the four of us we took our time and fished lazily all day long.

Trading camera for rod and vice versa. Taking photos of things that caught my eye between fish. Tried a new post technique on this one, I dig it.

The fish stopped moving to the surface to feed, so we added weights and sunk our dries.

We broke off our last hopper and were reduced to sinking Salmon Flies. Although they had passed through two weeks earlier the fish didn’t seem to mind.

Time for the long road home.

Releasing fish after fish, until the children started to mumble and awoke. The family packed up, happy to be Americans and happy to be fishing. Most of all I was happy to be their dad.

Tim AngeliMemberAaron,
along the lines of what your were saing, I’m 23 and my dad is still my number one fishing buddy. The father/son fishing dynamic extends beyond fathers taking their young kids fishing.
