Picked up a used Gheenoe today….1987 model….these things are tough! It came with a really sweet trailer as well.

I took the wobbly swivel seats off to expose some ugly cracked fiberglass and a cheesy repair job. I’ll re-glass and do it right so hopefully this boat will last another 20+ years. I’m also contemplating adding a false floor / raised deck. We’ll see. This boat will be mainly for duck hunting with the occasional trip to the river.

I use a Gerstner as well. Mine was an Ebay score about 4 or 5 years ago for about $100 bucks. I had to clean it up a little and re-line the drawers with felt…..but because it was old, it had that nice quarter sawn oak patina to it. I also use an old oak “card catalog” from a library for storage as well. And you’re right…it becomes a piece of furniture to alleviate potential conflicts with the significant other.

I see what you’re saying. I’ve never thought of it that way but now that you mention it…. I’ve noticed that some folks that fish out of my driftboat rock it a lot more than others. It’s typically folks that don’t flyfish a lot from a small boat.

Question…..When the person in the bow is false casting…..does the boat rock enough to generate ripples that might spook fish? Curious because I’m trying to decide between a Gheenoe and a much wider Riverhawk B60.

I went in their shop (Cooke City) during the summer of 2006 when the heat wave had hit Yellowstone. The owner (I believe his name was Tommy) pointed me to some productive water high in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. I purchased the applicable quads and trail maps from him and we ended up having a blast. He told me he was selling the operation and moving back to his family’s ranch which he recently re-purchased. He planned to continue outfitting, primarily elk hunters. I believe Cameron Mayo may have purchase Absaroka Beartooth Outfitters from him in the past couple of years.

As Will said….breathtaking country just north of Cooke City that many folks overlook enroute to the Park.

I just saw her today on an episode of Outdoor Adventures on the Outdoor Channel. She landed a 34″ bow on the Naknek River and a 39″ char in the Ugashik Narrows.

After reading Michael’s displeasure with his Patagonia boots….I had to do a little research. I’ve had just the opposite experience with mine….I can’t wear them out! They are the lightest boots I’ve owned and the most durable. So…..I did the research. My Patagonia boots are apparently a 1st generation model that are no longer made. They look nothing like the Riverwalkers I’m seeing on the ‘Net.

Just wanted to clear the air…I’m not endorsing the Riverwalkers simply because I’ve never worn a pair. I hope the Patties I have now never wear out.

I own both Simms (Guide model) and Patagonias. I use the Simms on tailwaters and in the driftboat but much prefer the Patagonias when I’ll be backpacking to the stream. The Patagonias are super lightweight, even when wet. With that said….I’d go with the ones that will fit your specific application.
