Those interested – many of the bigger names to do ACL are available on CD and DVD. Last time i was in Waterloo Records they had an entire section devoted to ACL. Bands? Aren’t there two SRV shows – on drugs and off?

Going to see The Gourds tonight here in Denton. There’s Ryan Bingham, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Drive By Truckers, My Morning Jacket, Son Volt (coming to Denton next month) and don’t forget the misunderestimated James McMurtry. I have written a bit about KOL, and they are the best big “unknowns” on the road. Big releases this year will probably overshadow – new U2, new Springsteen and I hope / pray for the long promised Neil Young box set.

Blurs are always a tough call. My personal rule is that something somewhere (it could be almost anything) has to be sharp. Otherwise, in my eyes, it’s an unintentional situation. shannon

Dusty, You never worked for Orvis did you? Kidding. Your recommendations on the Orvis line were all good for me – and spot on. shannon

Am wondering if the future of the Itinerant boards will soon include a large VIDEO category right beside “Photography”? Heaven knows, I am being slowly sucked in to that medium. I had a blast last year with my pocket sized Sanyo Xacti. shannon

    That’s OK. I didn’t cry … much. shannon

One thought on glass always leads to another. Price point will dictate your choices won’t it? Sooner or later someone will kick in their .02 on prehistoric manual lenses. shannon

in reply to: Nikon lens recommendation #66111

Glass cost is certainly a difficult thing to swallow when getting started. Keep in mind, lens is (I think) actually a variable 3.5-4.5 . That said, it’s probably great to start with and will work for you for quite some time. shannon

So where do we find these tools? Or is a trip to the dermatologist required – and them leaving the room for a second so I can stuff my pockets with throwaway tools? Shannon

Yeah it rocks allright! It is obvious to see their profit model comes from heavy hitter advertising, but how do they compensate contributors? It may be sacrilegeous to ask, but inquiring minds want to know. shannon

My Life Was This Big – Lefty Kreh. I got this one for Christmas, and having met Lefty a couple of times, it is about as down to earth Lefty as you could find. It basically reads like he speaks, and puts all the bits and pieces, known and unknown, together once and for all. An easy reading good autobiography. shannon

OK, so these fabric dyes would be what one uses on bucktails as well? Shannon

Ahhh man! You gave away the ending! Kidding. I am reading The River Why now, and the early pages remind me of the Royal Tenenbaums. Expect a long thread if both movies are ever released. Shannon

Actually, if it is important, what about taking on the printing process yourself? Once you start doing the important stuff yourself, you’ll never go back. As long as it’s not volume printing, you’ll be much happier ($), and end up a control freak (like we printers) when it comes to your fine prints. shannon

The RAW v. jpg debate comes up often. The only thing I wanted to mention in reading this thread was the “save RAW & jpg” idea. That is all fine and good. What you sacrifice is battery life and fps. The on board processors have to work much more to save two image files than they do one file of each image. Not a big deal, but those of us who did weddings for a living (before this second great depression hit), learned early that the battery drain was not worth the file gain. Plus there really is no apparent improvement in workflow. For goodness sakes, hire a professional – it’s the same principal as hiring a guide (and I will hire a guide if you hire me for your photography). See how trickle dow works, shannon

About the only upside I can come up with on this thread, for myself included, is, “Chicks dig scars!”. shannon

in reply to: What are your favorite cold weather fishing gloves #32177

My favorite gloves? Dry gloves … any dry glove. I was out in 18-degree Oklahoma (brutal without the beauty of, say, Boulder Creek) weather last Monday, and if you’re catching, you’re getting your hands wet. Switched out from Simms mitts to fleece fingered with Pearli (cycling) waterproof over those and was toasty. There is a lot of crossover from cycling to fly fishing when it comes to apparel. shannon
