I’ve worn plenty of makes and models with felt in a variety of waters with different substrates and never felt the traction or grip of which you speak.

We each know what we like and what we don’t and I’m sold on rubber lugs. I should prob now put my barely used felt sole boots up for sale

I still don’t understand the want or need for a felt sole or why people would not want to switch over from felt –> rubber. I’m also amazed that the driving factor has been transfer of invasive species.

I’m looking forward to the new direction and innovations manufacturers will take with rubber being the dominant product for our feet.

I would have liked this to have happened a long time ago.

i don’t have one but two friends do and they can’t say enough good things about them.

both have taken them off road extensively and on cross country trips.

I have something like this, the fishing box

stores all dry wading gear in closet till needed
stores wet wading gear in back of car on way home.

I’ve used red yarn strike indicators and sweater pieces to tie up sucker spawn on the river.

get one of the small barf/wash tubs too = free stripping basket

IV tube + metal cable company flag in ground = tube fly kit

those will all catch fish.
rabbit strips > marabou for tail. more ‘body’ in the water as marinaro would say.

i use herl for several things, mainly a damsely nymph body and tail. it makes a great scud pattern, and lungs for nymphs. harry murray (VA) uses it for his helgramite pattern tail (strymph)

our local orvis shop has recently gotten in some really cool colors and tones other than standard white, black, chartruse, olive, brown. i’ve been tying nymphs with a dull turquoise and some red wine colors.

i’ve also used its as hackle on cranefly larvae (think wooly bugger sans tail with just a prickly hackle around the body b/w chenile wraps.

you will now start looking at roadkill as free material and feathers within arm reach in zoo enclosures will not look so boring anymore (don’t get caught)

edit: i hope you asked for free hemostats while in the hospital. and spare IV tubing for tube flies!

the wife and i had talked about taking a long weekend down there, she has a friend with a house we could crash at. me fish, she read.

plans fell through and we have a lot going on now so doesn’t look like we are going.

not trout related, but people have been catching stripers up to 24″ at gravely point the last few days after work.

i’ve fished there before with no luck. thinking about changing my tactics and heading down there one day after work to see what that spot can produce.

-for those not from here, gravely point is a park at the north end of national (reagan) airport. there is a boat ramp and parking lot. the planes fly just over your head-close enough that you can count the rivets in the metal.

no measurements of the brown but it was big. the other lateral side had at least 3 lamprey scars bigger than oreo cookies and each was several inches apart.

the chessie is sinbad. hardest working fishing dog i’ve ever seen. 12 years old. still chasing sticks up and down the bank, bringing you rocks to throw when there are no sticks – or breaking off dead branches for you to throw.

i’ve fished with that dog in every type of weather imaginable. wish i could get one of his pups. he never complains and is always eager to get out and watch people fish and chase a stick.
