don’t know much about the bamboo pricing
however, from my days in fly shops, we’d ask this question first “how and where has it been stored for all of these years?”temperature and moisture seemed to be a big factor when someone brought in a bamboo and it had ether been warped or dessicated to the point it was no good.
let us know what price someone quotes you
i’m a big fan of the orvis mid arbor.
very smooth drag and easy to manage
not too much of a weight issue
it looks nice
holds a lot of backing and some long/thick belly lines
the price is really really reasonablenever fished a sage reel so i can’t compare
i now tie with a regal, the hook NEVER moves-whether a size 20 or 2/0
i’ve tied with griffin and renzetti and have settled on the regal c-clamp
i’d rather sacrifice bells and whistles like rotary and bobbin holder for stability. it is also quite simple with fewer parts to go wrong, break, get damaged etc.
they make a day pack that has no support, you could smush it and put it in your shirt pocket-always wanted one. the kind of bag you take empty on a trip and fill with stuff for the way home.
if you want a technical pack, look for one by black diamond. they have all of the bells and whistles to attach things like nets (ice axes, shovels, etc)

i’m a big fan of the macro for portraits, lets in a lot of light and shows detail. i usually bring only my telephoto and macro lens with me on outings.

i’m teaching a guy to tie tonight and all i had to do was roll the bins from the closet to the kitchen table quite convienient
I fish an orvis 10′ 6wt from my canoe. It is a medium to fast action rod and not too heavy to tire me out from casting to the banks all day in our local lake.
I like the extra leverage of having a longer rod. Landing fish is not much more difficult than with a 9′ rod.
I overline the reel with 7wt line to cast into wind and throw bigger flies.
I’ve always wanted to fish the boundry waters, its on my list of destinations.
i’ve got 2 sets of 4′ white plastic storage bins
i separate drawers based on material:
hooks
tools (that are not in my foam holder)
flash
hackle
egg/yarn material
dubbing
marabou/tail feathers/herl
foam
natural hair- buck, elk, calf
estaz /chenile -separated in drawer by zip lock bags
zonker/x cut
rubber legs and terrestrial body partsthreads are on a spool holder from craft shop
rods are in wooden holder like above but much crapier looking, reels are stored in boxes (pepsi plastic shipping container from behind gas station) belowi pull out the ingredients for each pattern from the various boxes and place them back when i’m done.
have to tie on a folding table in guest room, has to be put away when done tying
i’ve got plenty of mylar foam at home, i can sell you some dirt cheap or mail you some for cost of postage
it’ll be much less messy than gluing the mylar

my bro was telling me about a nikon dslr that has a gps in it.
the camera tells you your lat and long of the location where every photo is takentechnology is getting really crazy.
I use the D70 and no major complaints
one draw back is my N6006 lenses fit but the aperature is not adjustable, the doubler and extension ring don’t work either.
The lever to hold down the flash broke so I have to tape down the flash – several hundred dollars to get it fixed
