I fish the switch model. Only complaint is the size of the rod tube.
I’d say the majority of rods on the Salmon River in NY last fall on our trip were Deer Creek. Being a gear dork and fish for a living I do pay attention to what everyone else is wearing, using, and fishing. I saw A LOT of TFO 2-handers.
Nothing fancy for me. Super Clouser white/clear hair, dumbell eyes, black sharpee to make segmentations. Looks like skrimp

Teeg said he was waiting on a big 100 episode show. That was last summer. Not sure what happened since then. Both he and Brian are probably super busy.
Zach has one of the highest audio quality podcasts out there. Always a pleasure to listen to them.

The bass and bluegill were either caught under a thingamabobber or a hopper. The slower the twitch and bottom bounce the more action. Some bluegill hit them when the line was being lifted for the retrieve or just dragging the fly through the water walking down stream.
The cat and big bass took them on small, short, subtle strips. Looking forward to using them with clients on Thurs!

Ok, it worked.
I have no shame in using this fly either. I went to a fly shop for supplies. I went to the craft store for supplies. I played around and I went out yesterday with some friends and we all caught fish. Some of which were rather big.
I picked up the squirmy wormy materials by spirit river via Parker Flies on Ebay (I get a lot of stuff from them, fast and good prices). The material was too thin I thought. So I went to the craft store for some of the rubber wacky looking head creatures.
I tied up a bunch of random flies
I put them in my shirt pocket and headed out to the local tidal creek. The water was off color from a storm. Its usually crystal clear on the outgoing tide as there is a sewage discharge there. The fish love the cool water this time of year and in the winter they like it cus its warm.
We had seen lots of large channel cats, largies, and carp the other day. I was saddened that I would not be able to sight cast.
The fly that had two strands tied down in the middle worked best, on a weighted hook with a bead. The smaller worms got me one nice channel cat bounced off the bottom with a ‘b’ sized split shot.
Met up with some others and we started to hook into fish right off the start.
Just ordered some of the worm material. Wasn’t about to fish this fly until a client swore by it for carp. As I haven’t landed a carp in months, I figure its a start. A slump buster if you will.
I’ll report back. Prob will go to Walmart to get the parts on the toys that are thicker, mine is like angel hair pasta. From ebay.
Will it be like the Orvis Superfine series? Those rods are always very supple and present a fly delicately.
I’m driving a 1999 Honda CRV. It smells nasty. I think there are rodents living in it. Found a gnawed power bar with shreds of wrapper under a seat.
Its 4wd and has enough power to pull my drift boat. I’ve driving it from DC all over the north east and out to the Rockies. Its got enough room for me to sleep in.
The newer CRV models are more cushy inside and less outdoorsy. I can’t complain. It gets great mileage I don’t plan on junking it anytime soon.
I do want a conversion van with bunk beds, a tying table, and a sink. Something for longer trips. Wife says I’ll look like a kid toucher and my friend said he’d paint ‘free candy’ on the sides if I got one. Its my dream car though, one day.
I’ve been fishing my Orvis Helios 8wt switch w/ battenkilled large arbor recently. Tossing a Rio Outbound on it. Handles just about all my situations.
I want to start fishing my Orvis ‘Henry’s Fork’ more often now but its too soft for where I fish. It was my favorite trout rod. I want to have another one built by the Orvis rod shop as a back up to keep in a bunker.
Just got back from Colorado where I fished a 12′ Tenkara rod for tailwater fish.
I can’t remember the last time casting was that much fun. I got loads of rainbows and one brown (some over 12″) on a tailwater tossing tandem midge rigs with a small thingamabobber.
That would be my new suggestion for small streams.
The TFO Bug Launcher rod is great for small streams. Its a kids rod but a short 3wt and at $75 you can’t go wrong.
