I concur with the above mentioned flies. Dries that make a big splat when land and wake when stripped in and big pushy streamers.
As for leaders, a straight piece of mono that is strong enough for you to pull your fly out of trees and snags with out breaking.
One other thing is a pair of clear glasses so you don’t get a hook in your eye. Something like this:
I have a sit on top Ocean Kayak Frenzy. The thing floats and is light weight so I really do not complain. I have to keep it in a storage unit so it does not get out on the water as often as I would like.
I plan on going after snakeheads on the Potomac this week with it.
I fish a lot of foam hoppers in the summer. I use close celled foam or rainy’s foam tube strands. Never have them sink from being water logged. I have not noticed an preference by fish for color or amount of detail. A simple matchstick piece of foam with rubber legs works as much as a segmented body piece of foam with articulated legs.
The bigger the fly the larger the dropper. I think the biggest dropper I tie is on a size 10 hook. Usually a damsel or bead head hares ear.

I used to listen to world soccer daily before the liverpool fans threatened to kill the host’s kid and they took the show off the air and made it pay.
The old fly fish radio was a great one, specially the episodes with norm albiston.
Footy has taken precidence over fishing. Watched the germany v. socceroos game yesterday when I should have been out on the canoe.
Saturday was a long day with 9+ hours at the pub. Took a break between games and picked up the Buff gloves at Orvis up the street.

the big green egg is a giant egg shaped ceramic smoker. From what I have experienced, it slow cooks food with a constant temperatur and maintains the temp for a long time.
<3 the big green egg. I have a friend who has smoked chicken wings, wheels of brie, beef ribs, corn on the cob, and more.
He puts the ribs on at 0600 before work and the egg maintains its heat all day while cooking (we learned not to give the bones to the dog- I think Zach made that mistake once).
I want a green egg but there is no room to keep it at the condo.
Most of our grill work is done at DC United tailgates. We did thai beef skewers with homemade peanut satay and coconut rice last Saturday. Some guys showed up late to the party and used our dumped out coals to cook their brats:

I stopped by Penn Camera yesterday to sniff around. I ended up looking at the 18-200 as mentioned above.
I can get the lens new at the store with a $60 rebate. That price is better than what I have found online. Purchasing from the store also comes with a 6 year warantee.
I am hoping that a new lens will solve most of my issues. I do not plan on replacing the camera body.

We have too many gese in NoVa. We have plenty to spare. I’ve seen on the news how birds get covered in oil. I’m sure the big geese would suck up piles of oil. Win-win situation
I still think we should drop all of the Canada geese into the oil slick. Gets rid of the birds and sucks up the oil. Win-win situation.

Not designed for fishing, but the mountainsmith lumbar pack can’t be beat.
I have been using the same one since college and have taken it all over the place.
Is the fly that pricey because of the material used in it, time required, or the novelty of the item?
Lets say a $24 fly lands a fish in a tourny that earns a few thousand dollars. Then I’d say the fly is worth it.
The thing really does move on the top like no other fly I have seen. If I could get a fish to come up and pound that thing on the surface then I’d say its worth the money.
If hardy can sell a $100 priest, a $24 fly does not seem that unreasonable
