Mark SchaferMemberI’m looking at about 3000 miles in the drivers seat over the next two weeks and I would like to load up on some pod casts. I’m not looking for the more well know stuff but more off the beaten path. A Few that I already subscribe to
Basic Brewing Radio
Car Talk
How Stuff Works
I’m willing to expand my horizons so let me know what you’ve got, save me from listening to “bear in the big blue house” from the back seat over and over and over.Jul 13, 2010 at 11:46 am #43924Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerOther than my show, which I’m sure you’re familiar with, I’d also recommend This American Life with Ira Glass, The Splendid Table with Lynn Rosetto-Casper, The Orvis Double Gun Podcast, Fitz Cahall’s Dirtbag Diaries, A Praire Home Companion (but it’s just the News from Lake Wobegon), and, if you like sports, re-broadcast podcasts of Colin Cowherd’s show on ESPN radio.
Good luck.

MemberWNYC’s RadioLab is excellent. As are the TED Talks (though a few of them are best in video).
I also enjoy EconTalk, Planet Money, and the Freakonomics podcast (full disclosure- I’m an economist). Bloomberg’s “On the Economy” podcasts are very good, but I think they’ve started to require a subscription for these.
Enjoy the trip!

Mark SchaferMemberIt’s kind of amazing how many guys here have similar interests.
Jason, I have been following the Ted talks for a couple of years now but I think I will save the econ stuff for another trip though.Eric, I’m not that far from you if you need a taste tester on that first batch
http://www.homebrewtalk.com is the web site I visit the most on brewing. I need to get the smoker done so I can start on my brewing system. I took welding classes last winter with the brew rack in mind.Jul 13, 2010 at 2:06 pm #43929Rob Snowhite

The wife suggests and I like The Splendid Table
I used to listen to world soccer daily before the liverpool fans threatened to kill the host’s kid and they took the show off the air and made it pay.
The old fly fish radio was a great one, specially the episodes with norm albiston.

Why listen to one pontificate when you can listen to beauty? I can see that I have more work to be done.

Mark SchaferMemberIt’s 1300 miles from the north coast of Ohio to our place in Fort Lauderdale and I’m feeling the need to make a trip to Captain Tony’s.
Not to worry Mr. Montgomery thanks to Shannon At Texasflycaster.com I have the music portion taken care of. I was however considering a Rosetta Stone course so that I can understand you when your in a Newcastle stupor, But they haven’t worked up a Texasfrench version as of yet.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys we will be pulling out at 3am tomorrow.

Mark SchaferMemberWe have nearly 1500 miles in so far only had to toss out the old standard ” if I have to stop this car…” one time to halt a brotherly brawl in the far back seat where they new my arm wouldn’t reach.
The wife did get a little tired of listening to the pod casts but she did admit some were interesting. The boys want to do a barf boat trip if the waves ever lay down there is always someone chumming on those things.Jul 19, 2010 at 7:57 am #43937duncan elkins
MemberGood suggestions, above, and some I need to check out, myself.
I like the Fiction Podcast from the New Yorker, in which the fiction editor gets writers from the current stable to pick a favorite story from the New Yorker’s archives and read it, then discuss why they chose it. - BBC Wildlife Magazine
