MemberBrett, that is a great reply. I know we think alike when it comes to rod purchases (and yes I have a pretty good idea of your new additions). Unfortunately the guy who sent me this rod also knows me well and that’s why he played this cruel joke on me. It’s like sending a recovering alcoholic a year’s subscription to the beer-of-the-month club.
I am afraid that if I start playing this loner rod I’m gonna want one for myself . . .

MemberMatt, the fly is called the Bonecrusher. Here is link where Larry talks about the fly but there is no solid recipe out there on the internet. I have tied up about 2 dozen variants of this fly recently and it is really a simple pattern (more of a bend-back tied parachute style). I used sparkle yarn and also SLF fibers with sili legs.

MemberHaving only read or listened to others talk about two handed casting I must say that the biggest surprise for me was the size of these rods.

MemberDaniel,
I have to be very careful here because I am not from Montana but north of Kalispell in Glacier Ntl Park is one of my favorite places to fly fish in the country.

MemberI had a chance to fish with the dropper system (shown below). I found it very helpful to have preloaded dropper rigs waiting in the pocket. I think it would be very easy to make one of these yourself. Cut a piece of balsa wood about 1.5-2 inches width and 6 inches long. Glue closed cell foam on both sides. Then just pre-tie your dropper setups and wrap around. However, the version shown below has these little grooves on the side which are actually important because they hold the line from unwinding.

MemberKevin, welcome to the board and sorry to hear about your unfortunate tragedy. I completely understand the need to replace your flies, that is a HUGE loss to any fly fisherman. Since you are going to need to get restocked for insurance purposes I would recommend calling any one of the above sights or others you have used in the past and discuss the issue and see if they are willing to put together a mega-order and give you a discount in the process. I’m sure you could work out some sort of deal with them since you are going to be making such a big purchase.
By the way and FYI, my favorite online site lately has been Bearsden.com http://www.bearsden.com.

MemberHonestly, the difference between a 5 or a 6 weight (or between an 8 or a 9) nowadays is actually less than the difference between a “5 weight” made by some manufacturers and a “5 weight” made by others.
Great statement and I agree.
