Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Randy Wilson for putting on the Spey Clave….if you weren’t there you shouldn’t have been….Randy did an incredible job of pulling this together….great instructors….great learning opportunity. What really impressed me most was how this type of event can bring so many together….to share this great sport of fly fishing in all its aspects. There was hands on teaching available from any one of many certified instructors….with lots of opportunities to “test drive” a rod or two….to actually get out on the water (remembering that the water level was so high and algae count was too)….great food….and lots of friends (new and old)….just a great overall expeience….what fly fishing should be all about!!!!!
….and yes, I’m going over to the spey side…well at least part way any way LOL LOL….any way, THANKS AGAIN Randy for all you did….hear it’s all ready being planned for next year….and great that so many volunteered to help out whether flipping burgers or parking cars or whatever….and Randy also raised a lot of money for a very worthy program involving kids and fishing run by the Waterloo Regional Police.
There were over 200 people in attendance. Visitors were there from BC, Idaho, New Jersey, Ohio and even Arkansas.
P.S. John…great photos of Clave….on here and on website….loved the shot of Neil and I talking (didn’t realize it was you or I would’ve said HI)

Congrats Zach….hope to join you soon myself….but when one becomes a CCI aren’t you are certified AND certifiable too?!?!? Again congrats.
Never got to meet JC….but like many I think I got to know a little bit about him through FAOL especially his articles….and he will be missed…my thoughts and prayers go out to Deanna and the whole FAOL extended family
I also just wanted to add that having looked at Alan’s art and read a few posts on his blog that I was impressed….Alan, really hope you decide to stick around on IA….I believe you’ll find IA has a lot to offer….as you obviously have too
I’m on several fly fishing forums on the Net….and some I won’t spend much time on any longer (if any) just because they might not be my cup of tea……or maybe I’m just not a good fit for that type of forum….and I’ve “bumped” heads with Zach in some of my earlier posts here on IA and even questioned why some of those posts were “edited”….hell at one point, I even swore I was going to never post here again…..but I took the time to reflect on what Zach wrote to me in response to some of my queries….and I realized that IA was a very special forum that he had created (and for which I for one am very very thankful)….I might not always have agreed with Zach’s approach to keeping IA the forum it is…..maybe I even thought it was a form of “censorship”….but I know that Zach is just being protective of something that is special….of a fly fishing forum that really is a community resource….and Zach is quite approachable via PM to discuss any concerns one might have….this is Zach’s baby and as I said I’m thankful for him providing us all with a forum like IA
I had to learn and become more web savvy….I had to learn how to fit into the various forums on the Net….or choose not to bother with them at all….but IA has become one of the main forums I check out on a regular basis; I feel more than welcome here…hopefully Alan will stick around long enough to realize this as I have….now as somebody else said let’s get back to fishing
Guide should certainly give you all the info you need for fly fishing for steelhead up there…patterns etc. There are a number of great resources available for fly fishing for Great Lakes steelhead….including books, DVDs, and checking out several Internet sites (for example Google “Fly Fishing For Great Lakes Steelhead” and lots of sites with lots of info come up) — haven’t fished Minnesota for steelhead but have in Ontario side of Lake Superior — you’re in for a treat — best of luck and give us a report here
Interesting story by Larry — not the usual fly fishing story either — but that’s the beauty of Far&Away — it gives outdoor writers an opportunity to get their stuff out there — to be read and seen by others who might not normally get a chance to — I’m very grateful to Roger and company to have been included in this latest Far&Away

That’s definitely one to watch — saw a show last night on PBS WGBH (out of Boston; get it on satellite) on history of Appalachians — included natural history, Native American history, and history of early settlement (such folks ad Daniel Boone) — really really well done — narrated by Sissy Spacek — another installment next week — really hit home on how much things have changed regarding such an area — especially the environment
Like I said before Mike just glad you and yours are OK — and my thoughts are with everybody down there — keep us posted
JohnB, I remember in last year’s Canadian Open TV coverage, the annoucer talking about taking his fly rod out that morning onto Glenn Abbey golf course (where the Canadian Open was played last year and again this year) — on how in past Canadian Opens there he’d been able to go after salmon and steelhead when tournament was in September — and that the Sixteen Mile Creek which was a great place to fish — then watching couple of guys in kayaks floating through the course — would think they’ll add more security at Glenn Abbey as a result

You are not alone — like others here I was watching the Masters too and noticed those rings on the water from fish rising — and all I could think about was how nice it’d be to cast a line there — not really thinking as much about Phil’s charge on the first nine or Tiger getting close or even the finish with a three way playoff — no instead of three way playoff I was thinking 3wt rod!!!!!
