I’m on several fly fishing forums on the Net….and some I won’t spend much time on any longer (if any) just because they might not be my cup of tea……or maybe I’m just not a good fit for that type of forum….and I’ve “bumped” heads with Zach in some of my earlier posts here on IA and even questioned why some of those posts were “edited”….hell at one point, I even swore I was going to never post here again…..but I took the time to reflect on what Zach wrote to me in response to some of my queries….and I realized that IA was a very special forum that he had created (and for which I for one am very very thankful)….I might not always have agreed with Zach’s approach to keeping IA the forum it is…..maybe I even thought it was a form of “censorship”….but I know that Zach is just being protective of something that is special….of a fly fishing forum that really is a community resource….and Zach is quite approachable via PM to discuss any concerns one might have….this is Zach’s baby and as I said I’m thankful for him providing us all with a forum like IA

I had to learn and become more web savvy….I had to learn how to fit into the various forums on the Net….or choose not to bother with them at all….but IA has become one of the main forums I check out on a regular basis; I feel more than welcome here…hopefully Alan will stick around long enough to realize this as I have….now as somebody else said let’s get back to fishing

    I would like to add…

I have been a member of a good few Fly Fishing specific boards, and this is the only one I keep coming back to.
I stopped posting on other boards because the guys seldom talk about fly fishing any more; in SA we call it Kak Praat, talking crap. I have been called a “Sage Elitist Snob”, I have been told that I am stupid and that my knowledge is not wanted, I have been told by moderators that I am not allowed to have a web link to my website, I am not allowed to post photos with my watermark in the bottom corner, and a thousand other things… you cannot say that Zach has ever done that.

I have never met a bunch of guys who are as passionate about fly fishing and all things fly fishing as the guys on this board, nor have I learnt more than here, I love the way the board is run, I love the way we as a community contribute to each other.

When I read Alan’s first post I was quite upset that someone has entered here and started all the crap I left other boards for…

This argument is as old as fly fishing, some people take ferociously strong stands on certain positions, I don’t know why, they probably don’t why either. I’ve seen fights rage on internet boards on a number of subjects from winding left or right handed to to the usefulness/uselessness of double handers, and Sage v just about everyone else. Halford and Skues were hard at at it a century ago on upstream dry fly v nymphing and so on it goes. I’ve seen an argument rage for 150 pages on whether or not creep and drag are part of the casting stroke.

There’s only a couple of things that really matter, talking from your own experience, not someone else’s, giving credit where its due and fishing however you like to fish with whatever you like to fish with.

Please just don’t try and tell me what I should and shouldn’t be doing, and what I should and shouldn’t be fishing with – I prefer to make my own mistakes and to learn from them, that’s a condition of being human.

Zach you run a great board.

I actually agree with alot of what Alan says. There is a large percentage of fly fishermen who try to influence the sport with stupid rules, that aren’t fishermen at all. Some of them should trade that fly rod in for a butterfly catcher. However, I wouldn’t start an argument about it on a public forum though.

BTW Allan let’s see that Nub Worm pattern.

Well this has been fun, but to quote Mike Cline, “Hey, lets get itinerant and go fishin!”
When my brother entered the thread I knew it had gone too far.
