Wray – yes, everything else was shot on a 30D. It’s a royal beating having to take the camera out of the housing when I want to shoot regular. For that reason, I’m getting a 7D soon to carry along in the Seychelles.

Wray, I’m currently using an Ikelite housing for my 30D. I’ll include a product review for everyone in the next newsletter. Thanks for the kind words!

I agree, Zach. While my goal is to release a newsletter quarterly, I know that unless I quit my job, I won’t always have my newsletter filled with exceptional content. Labeling it anything other than “newsletter” would be misleading I think. It’s simply a marketing tool for me and I hope it will open up opportunities so that I can fill it with more content.

Thanks again to everyone’s kind words. It was a lot of work, but very rewarding and I plan to make each release that much better.

Our veteran fly shop employee, Ron Foster has been setting up private appointments here at the shop to sell feathers by the piece. He charged $2.50 per feather and has now profited over $6000. He’s got a nice chunk of change to put up for the Seychelles next year.

He had appointments everyday for about three weeks and now it’s quieted down. He hasn’t had an appointment in about a week. I’d say the craze is settling as predicted by the stylists – “it will be over by the end of summer”.

No offense, but those tips seem pretty basic and in my opinion apply to photography in general. Smells like a spammy post to me.

Brian, I have a Canon 30D. For the underwater photos I shoot with the 10-22mm and an Iklite housing with 8″ dome.

Great info, guys. Awesome shots as well. I will be sure and let you guys know what I end up going with, and I will definitely post pictures when I return.

Depending on the internet connection down in Punta Allen, I will try and make a daily blog post with a few photos.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

I’m having a hard time finding the legs that are in the olive/orange/teal combo. Those colors are incredible. Where can I get those?

Super rad flies, Neal! I’m going to try and tie some up for this weekend. These would be perfect for spawning bass here in Texas. Where do you get the majority of your materials? Online? I need to put an order in pronto!

That is a rad lens. I can’t wait until I get something like that. I love the depth of field capabilities you can get with the 1.8 lens. Great photos!

Allyn – swing by Tailwaters in Dallas. I’m there pretty much every day and shoot a ton of fly photography here. I’ll show you the ropes in person.

    Cheers,

Well I can’t say that I would ever do what you have just explained (selling my professional gear to downgrade), but the project sounds cool. Why is it that you were taking less photos with better gear? I always seem to take more when I get new/better equipment.

We’ve been hit hard at Tailwaters here in Dallas. Big city + lots of weird chicks + lots of hair dressers = NO HACKLE! We have had to special order tons of it. I’m not complaining, these girls are buying more than our average fly tier.
