Matt JonesMemberHere is some recent footage I got while at The Palometa Club (Ascension Bay) a few weeks ago.

Matt JonesMemberI plan on purchasing the DJI S1000 in 2015. From a commercial photography point of view, it’s a huge value. I know that Costa spent a ton of money to rent a chopper last year for their shoot, when it likely could have been done with a drone.
Plus it will just be fun.

Matt JonesMemberStu –
I love the mod that you did to the housing. Did you work this idea up on your own or follow a tutorial? I’d love to try this for my rig!!
There is also the option of hardwiring to the housing with the cables that Aquatech has which I’m considering.

Matt JonesMemberMark,
None to speak of for our group. All of us got our yellow fever vaccinations beforehand. The “noseeums” were a beating for sure, but the 100% deet kept them somewhat controlled.

Matt JonesMemberI have plenty of pocket wizards and speedlites. Mainyly I just wanted to see if there was a significant difference in how the light worked on the subjects.
The only place I see myself using the litepanels would be in a scene like the following:
For this image I see myself throwing a warm gel on the litepanel and cranking it up just to give the slightest accent on the back of the folks in front of me.

Matt JonesMemberNeal – that is EXACTLY the response I was looking for. And yes, I’ve been drooling over that Ranger system for some time now. I will likely make the purchase of 2 of them in the next 6 months or so.
Well, I can say that I won’t be purchasing the litepanels. I intend to rent one just to give it a test run. Depending on my cash flow, I still might not pull the trigger.
Looks like you have a SICK lighting setup. I’m jealous!

Matt JonesMemberThanks, Eric. I think I’m going to rent the thing first (they are pretty pricey) and see if it turns out to be useful. I’ve got a handful of ideas for it, but won’t know until I get down there and use it. I’ll have to do a comparison and do a review in my next newsletter.

Matt JonesMemberThanks everyone.
Chad – I have been debating on separating the images and to be honest I had a 10px separation at first. I’m definitely considering going back to that, I just want to finish making all the final touches.
Neal – Your compliments as usual are very much appreciated. I will try and figure out what to do about the color of the fonts, that’s something I never considered (color blindness).
Tim – Thanks! I finally got a cover and am stoked!!

Matt JonesMemberTim – the social links are absolutely positioned to sit to the right of my sub-nav. I’m guessing IE9 is rendering the positioning a bit off. If you have a screen shot I would love to take a look.
THanks!

Matt JonesMemberYour crappy cabin got smashed last winter btw…
Haha. I hope you guys didn’t try to rebuild it. That thing was meant to be left dead.

Matt JonesMemberCarter, I did get a new body. Picked up a Canon 7D before the trip. You guiding at URL this summer? I’m going to try and make it up there for a week or two.

Matt JonesMemberNow that’s a place I would LOVE to do some underwater photography!!! Great shots man!

Matt JonesMemberColin,
If you are referring to the photos above, those are parrotfish and bonefish. As far as triggers changing colors I’m not certain. Judging by what I saw, I don’t think they do. Sneaking up on them, they were the same color when feeding as they were once we landed them.
Emperors on the other hand did change colors. Once lifted out of the water they immediately darkened up and their colors became more vibrant.

Matt JonesMemberHaha. You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the compliments!
Steve, here is exif data for both split shots:
Av- 7.1
Tv- 1/500
ISO – 160
Lens – Canon 10-22Zach, yes! Tailing parrotfish! It was RAD. I’ll post some more photos of them in a bit.
In the meantime, newsletter is up and rolling. Check it out: http://theflyphoto.com/newsletter-1-2

Matt JonesMemberHaha, nice! Tell Ian I’m working on them. Should have something to share tomorrow. Will you get his email info for me? Ian and his dad were super fun to hang around with.
Yes, weather sucked pretty bad. It made the trip extremely challenging in regards to managing gear in the rain. More to come!

Matt JonesMemberThanks for all that info, Mike. I actually was talking with James on facebook a few weeks ago before he left for the island. While I won’t be fishing, I’ll make sure when I’m with him that we get the permit thing going. David, my boss has been 6 times so he knows the guides fairly well. Can’t wait to see this place!

Matt JonesMemberMike,
We are going to Alphonse. My boss (travel director at Tailwaters Fly Fishing) is taking his 6th trip to Alphonse with a group of 11. I’m traveling as the photographer so we can bring back some promotional material.
Anything I should be looking out for? Other than the fishing stuff, I can’t wait to shoot some photos of the turtles, sharks, other wildlife, ect. Have you been to Alphonse?

Matt JonesMemberI can’t wait to get my hands on the new AquaTech housing! Please buy!
www.mattjonesphotography.com
Matt JonesMemberAnyone?? I’ll ask $800 for the whole set up (excluding 30D). Smokin deal!!!
www.mattjonesphotography.com
Matt JonesMemberHaha – nope. Not at all. If anything I plan on getting more and more into the underwater gig. I’m moving to the 7D for a lot of reasons one being it’s AF system. That alone will be the difference maker for split shots as my 30D is confused as hell half the time on what to do. Thanks for the suggestions.
