Acadia’s likely to be pretty spotty for stripers – that’s the far northern end of their range, but there may be a few fish around, and there’s likely to be mackerel in if you can’t find stripers.
Don, I don’t know for sure how Zach’s doing it, but I have something similar on my photoblog and it’s actually done automatically by the software that runs the photoblog.
This is a guess-and-check thing; you can do the same with your polaroid sunglasses by simply tilting your head.
Note: while this can be very interesting and quite entertaining, it will earn you all sorts of funny looks.
2. Zach, could you try and explain your thumb and index finger analogy again…I cant quite grasp it.
I think it was my thumb/index finger thing that confused you.

One quick tip for using the polarizer when you get it:
Make a “gun” with your hand- index finger out and thumb up.

If you have an autofocus camera you need a circular polarizer, the size you need should be written on the inside of your lens cap.

We have a healthy sturgeon population here in Maine, but they’re protected, so no one fishes for them.
One night last summer a handful of us were fishing for stripers on a submerged sandbar a few hundred yards from shore and one guy hooked what he thought was the striper of a lifetime.
