Well, lets keep in mind that all of the speculation on the web is just that speculation.  Winston did fine tune the IM6 rods, you know the ones we call WTs today.  This “improvement” could be no more than a fine tuning that does not turn the Biiix into a fast rod.  After all, if you want a fast Winston rod cast a B2mx.  Time will tell.

Little River also has a cool cap;  one with the Brookie in Sage Green.

I had to go look in my hat box but, I liked the Little River Fly Shop Brookie hat so much I bought it in both the tan and the green color!!!

Unless someone gives you a personal recommendation from a Bristol Bay lodge they have used, I think I’d look at the website of a well known fly shop or several fly shops that books Alaskan lodge trips (like The Fly Shop) and see who they use.

Talk I’ve heard says that the recession has hurt some of the Bristol Bay lodges and some didn’t even open this year.

I’ve been fishing the Winston B2X 11′ #7 for a few years now and have nothing but good things to say about it.  

An 11′ switcher is really all you need to fish all but the biggest Erie tribs at higher flows.

I use a #9 steelie line for indy fishing and a SA Single Skagit 320gr. multi-tip for swinging.  It’s a killer rig and will turn over half a chicken if you get the timing right.

Swinging/skating popper for smallies on our local river can be fun, but I like crashing the banks and structure rather than just “fishing the water”.

FWIW, a friend of mine just picked up the Scott A3 before the big freeze and it is about as nice as they get for the price.

I hate to admit it, but I bought the Winston switch rod last winter and never got around to fishing it last season.

I haven’t fished one, but I was checking one out at a local fly shop.

For light weight reels it’s a tough call between the Hardy Bougle Mark V and the Hatch 3+.

For heavy weight reels I’d also pick two, the Peerless 3A and the Hatch 7+.

The Hatch reels are just really smooth and a joy to fish.

Of the reels I have the Hatch and the Abel are the best, but probably beyond what you want to spend unless you find an Abel on sale.

The Galvan, Bauer, and Nautilus reels are all very good reels, but I think that with the Nautilus you get the best reel for the money.

A Granger 9660. It has been around since the 1940s and still fishes great!

I use the Rio line cleaner on my Rio lines, The SA line cleaner and pad on my SA lines, and Glide on my other lines.

I clean my fly lines after every use.
