    Hey guys –

Any of you within a 3-4 hour drive of Townsend, Tennessee, should really consider making the time to head over to Troutfest this weekend.

Lefty Kreh, Bob Clouser, Joe Humphries, Jim Casada and the Rutters, as well as yours truly will all be giving presentations.  (Mine is on photography and will be Saturday at 4PM).

There will be free casting lessons, live bluegrass music, lots of booths involving everything from fly fishing to quilting, barbecue, etc.

It all goes for a good cause, which is nice, but in my experience it’s also the biggest and coolest fly fishing festival in the country.

I will be heading up there Saturday morning.  Since my presentation is not until 3:30PM, I’ll probably be available if anyone wants to take a refresher casting lesson (free), and I may russle up some people to head into the park for a few minutes to get some photos for the photoblog.

Part of my presentation is going to be on using Photoshop (I’ll quickly walk through ‘typical’ versus more ‘extreme’ magazine presentations, which would be helpful for anyone looking to sell images).

Email me if you want to set up a lesson or come along for photos.  In the mean time, you can check out the schedule of presenters here:

    Zach,
I’ll be at Troutfest this weekend as well. I’m really looking forward to it. I went last year and had a blast. I saw the schedule today and after seeing the material you plan to cover I am very interested in your class. I may pick up some much needed help for the fly tying article I write and photograph for the Little Rive Journal every month. I’m interested in improving my fishing photography in general, and any help with photoshop would be great. I will be tying Sunday morning myself, so if any of you want to learn some “secret” smoky mountain patterns stop by and see me. 😉 See you there Zach!

I really wish I could make it up to Troutfest this year but with family visiting from Michigan it is not in the cards.

I’ll be there both Saturday and Sunday, mostly working around the Casting for Recovery booth.

I’ll be there Fri-Sun – mainly be at the TFO booth or the Freedom Hawk kayaks at River Supply’s booth. And I’ll be tying Saturday from 1 to 5 (unless I slip out early to hear Zach’s program, which I’d like to do).

    Hey guys –

Back in Atlanta from Troutfest. The festival was bigger this year and not marred by rain. I want to thank those of you who made it to my talk. I think Troutfest’s attendance was actually up. There were several newspaper photographers running around so I kept my camera in the car.

I also want to mention the CFR booth, specifically the section run by Abe Mathews, who I thought had a really cool idea: he set up a side-booth and asked people walking by to sit down and tie a pheasant tail for CFR. He probably had three dozen by the time I got there and added a couple misshapen ones. I just thought that was really cool and fun – almost all of us can throw a fly together for a good cause and they (Abe, really) provided the materials.

I also thought it was cool getting to meet Jim Casada – I have enjoyed his posts here and I admire his writing work. More manufacturers were present, including Simms (who ought to have been there last year). The only one I didn’t see was Scott, but I know they are having their national sales meeting out in Colorado this weekend and I think it’s all hands on deck out there for them.

If you’re considering going out tomorrow, be sure to drop by the CFR tying desk – I told Abe he needed a more obvious sign, because when I walked by I thought it was another demonstration tying desk.

Zach’s talk was very informative – I learned quite a bit about how to get a good fishing-related photo.

Why does this stuff only happen in the south and out west?
