MemberA little background on the image – Sorry, no humor to the story.
Last year at this time we lost everything to a house fire – house, art portfolio… everything. To top that, two weeks before the fire we found out that we were pregnant with our first child. We completely rebuilt the house and moved in on Christmas Eve. At that time, we still really did not have anything but the shell of our new home.
In January, I found the IA podcast on iTunes and checked out the site. I promptly contacted Zack with kudos to a well put together site and podcast… and asked Zach if there was anything that I could do to help him with. He asked if I could work on a little project for him.

MemberThanks Aaron…
That is one photo that I am really happy with. It captured an emotional moment in my life that everyone might not know about. It is one of those little moments in time where you see something and say… I need to remember this… take a picture.
I have to agree that there is some serious talent on this board. Being the only message board that I frequent outside of some of the geek boards that deal with software issues, the folks on this message board are informative, creative, and honest.
The photo contest… With post production being such a major part of the NEW

Member“Back to the Drawing Board”
It was my entry with no Photoshop involved. It is also represents that period of time where I had to rebuild everything from scratch to get back up and running. Zach – Thanks for that push.
The other images were all in good fun but the drawing board is the real me.
Great Entries everyone.

MemberHowever, your nuts should be cut off if a buddy shows you a place, takes you there in confidence, and you return at a later date with some other dudes and write a “New Destination” piece.
Get arts and crafty… Make a change purse… or a reel cover for your spring creek rod. That would be a good addition for a bamboo purist.
Destination X.
Somewhere between here and there.
A little closer to there than here.

MemberDue to the heat and the draught, trout fishing is marginally “okay” in only one of the Georgia watersheds. Everything else seems be becoming a warm water fishery. The waters I used to frequent for trout now are full of shoalies which is not all bad.

Joel – I didnt want to take away from Chad’s photos but the subject line made it fitting. I did try to shoot the photo with Chad in mind with the one source lighting and such but the color version went terribly wrong. I could post it to get a good laugh.
I have to say I really love what Chad does with his images. The dark natural warmth that they have is inspiring enough to try to duplicate but I cannot. I have also shown his images to one of our regular photographers and he cannot do it. That is a true kudos to Chad. Now to talk the client into hiring him.

MemberWOW… You all really look at these. Chad – That sign was in the bleed edge and didnt show up on the proof .

MemberGood Eye… I knew that I posted this for a reason. Saved a round of revisions.

MemberSorry to play the Old Guy card, but y’all are nuts if you think someone should start listening to REM with “Automatic,” which came out in 1992 and was their EIGHTH full-length album (not including some B-side collections and stuff). If you like indie music, go back and listen to “Murmer” (1983) and “Reckoning” (1984) their first two albums, which are amazing works of jangly, Rickenbacker-fueled, off-kilter genius. If you want to stay with the more mainstream stuff, start with “Fables of the Reconstruction” (1985). THEN work your way forward.
Sheesh. Kids these days…..

This comment made me break out all the old Athens Music. Guadalcanal Diary, Chickasaw Muddpuppies, Pylon and so on.
There is some great new Athens music that hits the same realm and goes touches the bluegrass and oldtimey. Don Chambers and Goat has to be one of the best acts in Athens today and when teamed with The Drive By Truckers – they are hard to beat. Don use to be front man of Vaudeville and now he has hit his roots playing a self taught clawhammer style banjo. He’ s quite a character to boot.

MemberGreat Shots. Break out the ants.
#1 is a perfect product shot.
#2 I like the contrast of the ants but I thought the green was just some kind of foam (I know that it is not). I would like to see the flies on something else.I have to include my “Troutaholic Hat” because of the subject line.

MemberChad – You got one of them. The Bait shop is right outside the Okefenokee National Park. The rest where shot driving up 441 to Athens,

MemberEverything is going to the beat — It’s the beat generation, it be-at, it’s the beat to keep, it’s the beat of the heart, it’s being beat and down in the world and like oldtime lowdown and like in ancient civilizations the slave boatmen rowing galleys to a beat and servants spinning pottery to a beat…
-Jack Kerouac (Desolation Angels)
Ben – These images are emotion filled and wonderful. Jack Kerouac use to be the usual read until late which has turned to the stories of John Gierach. Jack’s words in so many ways describe these images. The life so far down that the small excitements come from the basics. These simply are wonderful images.
There are some wonderfully diverse photographers on this board. There is the action of John Bennett; the natural but modern images by Chad Simcox’s single source light; the soft details of the real world that Ben share’s with us; and there are to many others to list that it is a shame not to list them all.
I have a similar “pet” project with buildings but no people. I use to have thousands of these shots but now I am only left with a few. Everything and everyone has a story and images like Ben’s inspire us to find those words. Photography is a great way to make the imagination tell the rest of the story.
I moved the photos to another thread.

MemberMOSS!!! They made a great tent 🙂
I purchased the Half Dome 4 yesterday. Easy to put up ant roomy. Not to heavy and easy to split the weight. This is a well constructed tent. I am impressed with REI… after being a hater for a long time. The Purchase of Mozz really turned around their tent program.

MemberI carried a Bibler pueblo for years. Single wall but pricey. The best tent I have ever owned (4 person and 8 and a half pounds) I am pretty sure Black Diamond has bought out Bibler but they are still making the tents. Bibler worked with GORE on the single wall technology.
Putting a single wall up take some getting use to because this one had the poles on the inside. Another thing to get use to is the way they breath. There tends to be a little more condensation on the inside of the tent.
REI bought a tent manufacturer a couple of years ago and the name left me (this was a high end company and their tents were top notch and red and tan in color – it was the company that came up with the wing shelters). After looking at ALL the REI Tents recently, they are all quality made. Bucket bottom construction with all the seams tape sealed. Great quality with a good price tag. REI has everything that I would look for in a double wall in all sorts of configurations. The half domes look great with a easy to put up – 2 pole construction. The half dome 4 is right at 8lbs

MemberI love the way you do the backgrounds on your shots. It really opens up the world for design applications
(and makes any sort of photoshop easy if needed).
