Curious about the mystery instrument played by the bearded gentleman above, I did a little quick research and discovered he’s playing an autoharp.

Thanks Mike – I have this problem that I am use to print… When it is done – it is done. With a site like I am trying to build, It is never done – It is a living growing thing. It is hard for me to get that aspect into my head.

Thanks Corey, I still have big plans and much to do with the site. But this is a great start. It is finally coming together. All sites have to start somewhere.

Member Galleries is my next adventure. The hard part is figuring out how to make it easy on me as well as on the member. There is a store front in the works as well but one thing at a time.

Let me know if you see any strangeness and I’ll try to work it out.

    Very Small world.

I found Zach’s podcast on iTunes, then found the web site. I had no idea that he was in Marietta at first.

I love his sculptures but really dislike the paintings his studio produces. Interesting guy and story, Koons quit wallstreet to do his art and now he is the ultimate creative director, getting his employees to create the art he has in his mind. His studio is setup in similar fashion of Warhol who used other folks to create the work with his name on it.

I had a typo in Warhol’s name but Warhola was his real name. If his mother called him that, it is good enough for me.

I am waiting on a Koons big fish sculpture like this.

It’s always fun to spend other people’s money, but it’s more fun if we know the budget and what (generally) you’re looking to get.

How much do you anticipate getting from the Ins. Co.?

Actually it kind of sucks. I just replaced everything from a fire and I am sick of it.

You mentioned $5000 for the laptop because of the software. You might want to check your policy because software is usually not covered. If you own a registered adobe product. Adobe will replace it. I know this from experience. Actually all registered product will be replace by most software companies

Also when it comes to computers and cameras the insurance companies usually give fair depreciated replacement value which is a way of saying “not much”, then come back after you prove that you replaced it with a SIMILAR, SAME, to Equal product – they then will cut you another check for the differnce in depreciation.

Insurance companies have to play this game… but it is only the fault of the consumers who abuse the system.

    All this and a Jeff Koons exhibition… wow… what a trip…

For the folks who are sure who Jeff Koons is… A quick description would be… He is the modern day Andy Warhola who looks like a conservative banker and has a factory of folks creating crazy pop art paintings and sculptures.

Way off topic for a fly fishing site but I had to acknowledge the “high art” part of this trip.

These post are a real inspiration. I believe most of the folks here love food about as much as fishing and sometimes more. As of late, I have not been able to hit this site as often due to time crunching but post like this make me laugh and make my mouth water for a little more for fishing travel.

The talk of Crumbles makes a person like myself say “Huh”… Is this a cobbler with a different mother? I had home made at peach cobbler as my grooms cake at my wedding and yes there was home made ice cream as well.

Then there is the talk of mac and cheese. In the south, this is considered a vegetable and served as such. With a glass of sweet tea (the house wine of the south) and some part of a pig you have a meal.

Then there is the talk of barbeque. The mustard based sauce that Cameron talks about is amazing… once you get past the alien aspect of eating scary yellow meat. If in the SC area visit Maurice’s and try it out. I had a white Alabama sauce last week that was just as good and I believe the oddity made it even better. And there is the talk about DRY vs WET RIBS. This debate causes fights in Memphis. Personally I like the Wet Ribs but that is because I only know one place that cooks a really good Dry Rub Rib and I have to say that it is also my favorite rib. (Rendezvous Charles Vergos in good ole Memphis – remember to visit the king) All this talk and it does not even hit the best barbeque in the South…. But I’ll leave that up to your imaginations. But if in Athens Georgia Area for any reason visit Hot Thomas or Zeb Dean’s and join a local debate – And Like fishing holes, I still know a hole in the wall only open one day a week with a limited supply with meat that is far beyond either – this is much like stream X) Travel into North Carolina and the real debate is on. One towns name makes your mouth water. Lexington.

I have not really had a good proper chance to respond.

I want to thank everyone that responded and voted. There were some great photos submitted to this contest and to “win” a contest like this with a community of so many great and talented photographers is really an honor. I know that goal of this contest was to have fun and that it was not “professional” skills that Zach was after but every photo submitted had that touch of professional quality.

My favorite photo in the contest was “Ooh I Just Got a Bite” by Brett Hoskins. With a new born baby, I dream of days like that. She had it right because food on a fishing trip is the best food ever. This brings back memories from my childhood and creates dreams of the future. Nice photo.

“Itinerant Angler Ale” – Jim Lampros… I have to try one of these. Like the food on the water, Home Brew has a special place in all of our hearts. To try a home brew cooled by the stream after a day of fishing would be one of the best things I can imagine.

“Grass Trout” – Bob Riggins. What a great laugh and this is what I believe the contest was all about. This also shows the desire that we all have to be on the water. In hard times it can be really hard to keep a sense of humor and it can be even harder when we cannot do what we love. Keep it up Bob and if there is anything that any of us can do to help – Just let us know.

Joel’s photos were all great and the lack of snow that we have in the south makes me kind of envious. But… Is it still snowing up there? I can not envy that. But on the 90+ degree days in the south when we shouldnt fish because of stressing the fish, I’ll look at this series of photos and cool off a little.

My other post were all fun photoshop heavy. You guys really impressed me with your photoshop skills. I work daily with a bunch of designers daily that cannot do the photo work that you all possess.

I look forward to meeting Joel and seeing the beautiful landscape where he lives. I also look forward getting my new pants dirty and shooting my new sharkskin line. This contest was fun and thanks again to all the folks on this board and the sponsors… I think this is all of them.

Joel Thompson – Montana Troutaholic Outfitters
    Temple Fork Outfitters
    Scientific Anglers
    Mountain Khakis
James Buice of Scott Fly Rods
Mark Shafer of Steelhead Shop in Toledo, Ohio.

    and ZACH,,,,

    Thanks.

A little more difficult in CS2.

    Open the Jpeg file.

    1. Make a duplicate of the background layer (important to keep your original pixels)

    2. Adjust the exposure (image>> adjustments>> Exposure)
play with those sliders until it feels right

    3. Next… (image>> match color>>) On this one I just cranked up the color intensity to 200 and left everything else. I like the color right here but you tend to loose a little of the white detail so let’s try to regain some of that

    4. So next… (image>> adjustments>> Shadow/Highlight>>) Click on the show more options box. I work from bottom to top in here. I do not understand the defaults in here but I am working from the default settings.
first I bumped up the the midtone contrast to try to regain those details. Then I bumped up the “amount” of highlights about then I backed off on the “Amount” of the shadows.

This got it to the point where it matched Zack’s

    5. The color was a little intense for me personally so I backed off the saturation a little. (image>> adjustments>> hue/saturation (command U) ) just back off on the saturation a little.

    OR

a simplified and quick “To See What You have” version.

    1. Open image, duplicate layer.
    2. adjust exposure
    3. Adjust the shadows and highlights

Still not liking the colors; Feels a bit off to me and I’m not sure why. Any thoughts anyone?

    Before:

    After:

Just back off on the saturation a little.

When you crank in those colors it tends to get a little saturated and to reduce the saturation a little gives it back it’s natural feel.

In my opinion it should all stay. This is another one of those where the client took one little thing out and LIKE CRACK…. they are addicted. so take this out… take that out… take it all out.

I am really digging the truly natural and raw photos lately.

Aaron… you are on it. Looks great – just watch the saturation and you are good.

When I get back to work I was going to get the complimentary tutorial for CS2 – which will show everyone the real flexibility of CS3. I want to sit behind CS2 to make sure it is correct.
