Chad SimcoxMemberI shot this photo last year when i first picked up a new sunpak 383 strobe. Stobe below aimed up with white reflector over fly and vice to reflect back down. I was trying to get a unique style for this photo to illustrate using big streamers at night for big fish.

Nice technique – the bounce worked great.
I’m curious, from a fishing perspective; this a fly for freshwater fish, or salt? Of course I realize it could be used for either, but I’m wondering what it’s specifically tied for, and what the overall size of the fly is.

The Itinerant AnglerI like it, especially for the application of a night fishing article.

MemberI love the way you do the backgrounds on your shots. It really opens up the world for design applications
(and makes any sort of photoshop easy if needed).

Kendal,
This is a freshwater fly. I wouldn’t use it for salt soley for the fact that it is tied on a freshwater hook. But I bet it would make an amazing sand crab pattern for corbina and halibut. The overall size is probably 3″. Not having it here in front of me, I’m going to assume it is tied on a size 4 or size 6 hook. It’s a big heavy fly!
I bought it from Fly Fishing Outfitters in Avon, Co to use on The Blue River below Green Mountain Reservoir. I don’t think this fly has ever seen the water. If I ever pick up an 8wt like I plan on doing, I’ll probably throw this bad boy for the big bass that live in the lakes here. Thanks for the other comments guys. Zach, this was a spur of the moment self assignment to just try and see if I could get a shot that I found to be interesting.

Very cool to know man.
We regularly fish flies that big on the coast here in Texas – big fish = big flies.
