I like to fish them behind a dry of some sort. That way, I can control the depth of where they should be and because I hate to run a big bobber over suspended fish.

LOL Juan – Your Hopper Juan pattern is what got me thinking about tying some foam.  BTW, your HD video tutorial at hopperjuan.blogspot.com is AWESOME!

    What is water shed?

Thanks man. Here is a photo of Water Shed.

The only thing about this product is that you have to let dry for 24 hours.

    Neal,

I am partial to my hopper pattern and I love throwing that thing.  I have been throwing it since May.  Foam flies are very durable and float really well.  I treat all my dries, including foam hoppers with water shed.  It helps to keep them drier longer, espically the hair and any synthetic materials.  The Hopper Juan will be avaliable commercially next year. To bad I missed this year!  i can also support a heavy dropper if needed.  I can drop tungsten droppers off of this thing and be ok.  If things get to rough, I might have to drop the weight down a bit, but that rarely happens.  Tie some up and fish them.  You wont be dissappointed.

I have had fish eat small midge emergers during the time when you are mentioning.  Was this on 11-mile?
You might try a small black KF emerger or a small antron wing emerger or my Floss Back Emerger in black, all in size 22. These are what worked for me.  After the fish switch to spinners, I then went to a dry or a sinking dry.  Give it a try, but those fish can be picky as hell some days.

    Zach,

Are you using super glue and egg veil on your eggs when you tie them?

    Kelly,

Crazy thing was that the first winner was out catching some hogs and did not get back in time to claim the prize, so I re-drew and the second winner had 24 hours and never claimed it either, so I am adding more flies to the box and it will be up for auction at my local Trout Unlimited auction in May.

They all look nice and pretty now, but I’d like to see them after you put them in front of a few nasties!

I’m just wondering if that trick that Kelly L. used last time would work again this go ’round?

Hey Juan, has a winner been chosen yet I wonder…

Now you’re supposed to post back that yes…it’s you.  Just checking to see if it works all the time or just some of the time ;D

    Kelly.

No winner yet, but you have a 1 in 71 chance to win right now.

Well, I’ll jump in to add my $.02.  I use a set up for my classes with an HDTV and HD Camera.  I don’t know much about the camera to projector, so I can’t help there.  I just have the camera hooked up to the TV using a HDMI cord and everything is super clear.  I tie a lot of #18-22 size patterns and it makes a huge difference.  I don’t think people would come to another one of my classes without that set up.  As for cameras, there are a ton out there.  I like Canons and you might have to make sure the camera can feed into the projector before buying or make sure there is an adaptor to make it work.  Let us know if it works.

    BT,

I use them some and have no complaints.  The model I use is the Big Eye hook and I believe it is the same hook as the Daiichi hook.  I think that is what the Orvis hooks are but not 100% sure. Sure looks like it though.

I want to avoid people ganging up on Cutthroat on a message board since they most likely won’t see this and be able to defend web bashing.

Understood, but a well earned reputation–good or bad–will preceed you.

Wow! A sage rod! Cheap ass’s if you ask me.

Whole sale on the highest end Sage is probably less than 400 bucks.  Between all of the shops that got hit they should pony up a lot more than one sage rod – cheap skates.

I’m going to whole heartedly disagree.  First of all, they shouldn’t have to offer anything for someone to do the right thing and turn the thief in.  Second of all, the article says that the thief stole “as much as $10,000 worth of gear.”  We’re not talking about millions of dollars here.  Assuming the rod they give costs them $400, as you’ve stated, that makes it worth nearly 5% of the quoted value of the stolen goods.  If that $10,000 value quoted in the article is actually the MSRP value, then the shops’ loss was actually on the order of $5000, making the reward more like 10% of that value.

In my opinion, the shops’ reward of a sage rod is a pretty darn good reward for doing what should be done anyway.

I am with you on this one Tim.
