The S. Platte is a great place to do some fishing, but It wouldn’t be on the top of my places to go or recommend to visitors.

Doc Thompson is a couple hours north of there. I’d check out his website for some ideas.

Doc is a good guy, based out of the Cimarron area, he might be too far away for guiding in the Santa Fe area, but if you want to fish the Cimarron, he is one of 2 I recommend and the Cimarron is something very special if you can swing it.

That time of the year would be fun around Santa Fe.  Places to check out are the Jemez, west of Los Alamos and the Pecos, east of Santa Fe.  If you want cutthroats, either place will be fine.  Just remember the higher you go, the better it is.  On the Pecos, you can catch Rainbows and Browns down lower.  Same on the Jemez.  The Jemez is fed from the Guadalupe and the E. Fork Jemez and the Rio San Antonio.  All are fun and good.  Think 2-3 wt on the feeder creeks and a 4wt on the Jemez.  The Pecos 4-5 wt rods work well.  Check in with High Desert Angler in Santa Fe.  They know the area the best.  I used to live in Los Alamos for 4 years and never ran out of places to explore and never got to all of them either.  Have fun!  New Mexico is a well kept secret and once you discover it, you almost want to keep it to yourself.  The San Juan is well known, but not the only place to throw a line.  Oh, and the Rio Grande is also within an hour or so and if you want to challenge yourself, go there.  I can’t recommend anywhere else to send a hot shot to get humbled!  It is rewarding though.  Hope this helps.

That fly flat out rapes fish………..and it is super easy to tie. Question, did you mark up the flexi-floss or are you finding that variegated?

    MRL1,

I barred the legs, but MFC has some speckled sexi legs that already come barred like this.  Some cool stuff!
    Thanks, Juan

I agree with Matt…Good Chili uses good meat and its not ground…I usually use cubed sirloin…

Lots of different styles of chili out there..

Matt’s recipe sounds really good for a bean chili….but my favorite style is a  Texas Red (no beans, ever)…There is a good recipe for a texas red style chili on any container of Gebhardt’s Chili Powder. Follow it, and add or subtract as needed. Its good and an absolute no brainer.

I dont usually toss pork in a Chile unless its a Chile Verde (green). Cheers.

    Gavin,
So glad that you know the difference between chili and chile!

    Hmm… not happy with this.
3M bought several nice manufacturers and eventually they all disappeared.
One I really liked was JW Outfitters.

    I’m afraid Ross Reels will eventually fade(d) out…  :'(

This is what I was going to mention.

I prefer a more modern and agressive look on my lighter rods.
    The Sage Click

    and Galvan Torque

    are my choice of reel for my Scotts (7’7″ 3wt G, 6’6″ 3wt G).
Although the reel is only really storing the line, these are lite, and when fishing lite, I prefer to go the fully monty 🙂

The click II is what I roll with on my 8′ 2 & 3wt G series rods.  They look really nice and are super light.  The entire set up is super light since the rods don’t have the extra weight of a reel seat.
