J.T. GriffinMemberNice fish.
J.T. GriffinMemberLooks like a great trip. That river is a special place.
J.T. GriffinMemberDo most of the Florida guides have the “six pack” license, I’m assuming?
J.T. GriffinMemberDid you try kayak.com? It’s a great site for checking prices on travel.
Maybe try switching to Thursday or Monday?

J.T. GriffinMemberTodd,
I fished the Pan last fall and had a fantastic time.
J.T. GriffinMemberMatt, those are great pics. What do use to take your underwater shots?
J.T. GriffinMemberwill do.
J.T. GriffinMemberZach,
Is that what the rub was before? Not trying to stir the pot, just curious what was going on.I see what you’re saying.

J.T. GriffinMemberZach, the analogy to golf instruction is a good one. You may have to completely discard the way you cast now in order to do things the right way. I’ve had a lesson or two and have found that the teachers will usually tweak what you’re doing, but there’s nothing wrong with starting from scratch, either.
J.T. GriffinMemberFlip is probably my favorite fly fishing personality and I’m glad to see him active with TFO.

J.T. GriffinMemberGreat pics Zach. Those are some nice fish.
J.T. GriffinMemberAbe, thanks for pointing that out. For some reason the Simms video just takes off when the page comes up.

J.T. GriffinMemberDave, Craig,
I guess instead of me complaining, I should get my act together and try to organize an FFF midatlantic test!!Mar 13, 2010 at 11:57 am in reply to: Have you ever wanted to become an FFF casting instructor? #42472
J.T. GriffinMemberWell Dave since you brought it up, while I’m open to travelling by car for something like this, I still believe the fff could setup tests more regionally. I know several fff instructors and one particular master caster in my city.
Why can’t the fff have a midatlantic testing when the region meets? It would certainly be easier for you and others who travel to take give the tests.
The fff could have signups for regions and then if no one signs up, they obviously wouldn’t have to give the test.
I think the program is great, but I still believe there is a more efficient way to give the tests.

J.T. GriffinMemberSounds like a good class. Id like to take the test, but the closet place that i see it being offered is Arkansas. I think the FFF needs to make it available in more areas for people to take.
J.T. GriffinMemberZach, Catch,
I’m going to be in New Orleans in August and wanted to chase reds for a day. Is LA’s fishery such that you really need a guide?
J.T. GriffinMemberI stayed at the aspenalt in basalt and thought it was great. It’s not fancy but it’s clean and affordable. I was just there in October and had a great trip. You don’t need a guide on the pan.
Check out Taylor creek fly shop or give Cam a call there and ask him.
You’ll have a great trip. The pan is one of my favorite rivers and basalt is very cool.
PM if you have specific questions.
J.T. GriffinMemberthe Saltwater Angler in key west has a cool hat/logo That is my all time favorite, but it’s pretty worn now.
J.T. GriffinMemberGreat pics Zach. Is “the tight spot” line a nod to “oh brother, where art thou?”
J.T. GriffinMemberI have a process for cleaning my line. I use dreft detergent in a bucket, strip off the line and wash it off. Then I put the line in a bucket of fresh water and rinse off the soap. Then I dry the line and apply Glide.
Finally, I take a rag and wipe the glide off.
Essentially the line dressing is like car wax. You need to buff it off. I’ve also heard of people who didn’t buff off the line dressing and it put a groove in one of the stripping guides.
It takes a while to do thus, but I’ve had good success with it.
