    hey all,
after taking the advice of many of you, i booked a trip on the Pan and even bought my first underwater camera: thanks to all for helping me with that…i still have a LOT to learn on the camera side (and we all have a lot to learn on the angling side)..any advice on the imagery is great appreciated…as you will see, it looks a little bit blanched at times.
using Neal’s advice, i tried to us AE settings and soft flashes, but, alas, i am no ansel adams.  my photography is more like Bryan Adams i think
    (gratuitous canadian reference).

anyway about the trip: what can i say? it was great.  the weather was a little off-putting but we worked through it : there was a winter storm advisory and we had some cold, but missed the snow by a day (except when my flights got rearranged on my way out).

we decided to use Frying Pan Anglers at the suggestion of many of the IA guys…we chose Ed as our guide, and couldn’t be happier.  like my friend marc who joined me, Ed was about our age and shared the same humor and desire to fish hard.  great choice….

backnote: i was prepared to go on this trip solo, but a friend i haven’t seen since my college days in montreal (fifteen years ago) sent me a note that he wanted to join….he had never fly fished, but is an accomplished salt water angler living on the coast of maine – and he did great (except with holding the fish as you will see!).

The first day, we floated the Roaring Fork: outstanding experience.  Nymphing the whole time, we had three flies on and had some decent success….both got 8 fish, with about 5 Rainbows each. Dropped a couple too….

Here is the first brown i got about four minutes into the float:

Here is Marc holding his first fish like it was a new born kitten:

Decent rainbow soon after the brown. Not sure where the beer case came from:

The second day found the Fork a bit high and muddy….we decided to wade the Pan…and it was a great day.  we both were  blessed with about 20 fish each and some healthy ones.  We fished about 5 holes/runs and had a great time, again with only nymphs (three again, which i had never done).  fish seemed to be taking the midge pupae mostly…..

Here I am in some action:

Here is Marc with a nice one….

Here we are at the end of the day, fishing just below the no trespass sign…but i thought it was funny to get the sign in the background…as a land owner myself, it was great to see how Ed respected us even coming close to the sign!

Hope you enjoy the report. Thanks to all for the help/advice, especially on the camera and how to start to learn how to use it….

    cheers
