John WilliamsMemberSo where exactly was this attack. I hear Soda Butte Campground and my mind jumps to Pebble Creek but since it was not in the Park proper I’m a little lost.
AS for how dangerous bears are just remember bison do more harm every year they just don’t get the sensationalized hype. For those of you who are interested check out Roland Cheeks book Learning to Talk Bear it primarily focuses on the Glacier/Bob MArshall/Scape Goat/Great Bear Wilderness Complex but is great info and a fairly entertaining read.

John WilliamsMemberJohn,
Just find the Jasper Bench and park and wait sooner or later you will see a very wide variety of YNP’s mega-fauna. Better yet wet a line in the Lamar as it flows past the Bench. Yellowstone Cutts, Bison Elk and Wolves all go together well.

John WilliamsMemberVery sad news indeed.
While I never spotted one of them while out there. I heard their howls while plying hte waters of Upper Slough.

John WilliamsMemberThanks for the updates Dave. I hope the river rebounds well this spring. It is a truly a unique place to fish.
JW
John WilliamsMemberThanks Dave>
The report I heard was considerably more alarming.JW
John WilliamsMemberGreat Pics!
Beautiful Land Cruiser what year is she?My Dad had both a ’62 and a ’72 wagon both of which left his custody somwhere after 350,000 miles.
John WilliamsMemberDave,
Got mine at the Sommeset show 3or4 yrs back from river road creations.

I got the mayfly wing cutters and really like them although it was a little tricky for cut hen wings. Just be sure to use the foam pad that comes with your kit.

John WilliamsMember“Delaware? man, I gave up on that place.
John WilliamsMemberWill,
A product I have had good success with is C’mere Deer. I typically use the powdered form and hand broadcast it across the field. One thing to be aware of is what foods the deer have available at a given time of year. Deer digestive systems change from season to season and feeding them something from the “wrong” time of year can sort of shock their system. The nice thing with the above product or others like it is that it merely draws them to the existing forage/browse material.

John WilliamsMemberNow that is irony! It also speaks volumes as to what is wrong with the world these days.
John WilliamsMemberO/U photographs, and in all likelihood I’ll make my money back using it for pics. Maybe I can use that money to buy a side by side some day. I have never shot one and don’t know anyone who has one.

I started with an old Ithaca 20ga pump and then moved up to an old style side by side 12ga with double trigger configuration. Only problem with that set up was trigger #2 always ended up feeling like I had busted my trigger finger.
I don’t carry the 12ga much any more but I love that little 20ga especially on the trap range. So many guys look at you funny when they realize you are shooting trap with a 20. Then you bust 23/25 and they just smile. I just smile back (especially after 5 or 6 rounds when my shoulder is feeling fine and they are are rubbing out the ache). As for the hunting the last two years have been almost non existant due to family stuff, however I seem to have been rewarded with seeing alot more game in my daily life.

John WilliamsMemberHopefully this is not too far of a departure from this topic.
As an angler that seldom fishes waters that allow folks to float what are my ethical responsibilities when encountering folks drifting?
To simplify things I’m only considering an un anchored craft actively floating down the river. If the boat is anchored I treat them as if they were wade anglers.

John WilliamsMemberTechnique varies with desired end result.
Tight bodied dry flies call for a hint of moistre on finger tips and just enough dubbing to change the thread color.
Buggy nymphs call for touch dubbing loops or ropes all depending on desired bulk.
Wool bodies and heads are always dubbing loops/ ropes. As for LW I agree 1000% on his tying skills not to mention his on stream approaches.

John WilliamsMemberThey are now draining the Savage. I have been fishing with a local expert and he has had trouble catching fish there.
It is the worst river for wading that I have been on or in. Very slick. The only river I have experienced that was tougher wading is the Yough. At least on the Savage you are only flirting with a broken limb. On the Yough you’re dancing with the reaper himself.
Third place is a draw between the North Branch Potomac and the Upper/Mid Lehigh.

John WilliamsMemberRob, the link seemed to just list a bunch of rivers.
I guess my point here is that trout fishing in the area just isn’t very good. It seems that the poachers get most of the trout and the streams that do make it, like the gunpowder, have trout that are just very spooky and extremely technical (ie, super hard to catch).
Just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t the worst fisherman on the east coast.
JT,
Part of the issue is geography. Most of the streams are cold in the headwaters but untill they grow large enough to support good sized fish they are also marginal in terms of temperature (for trout atleast).
YOu really need to head North and west to get to the streams that
John WilliamsMemberBrian,
Depends on the Bream you are catching. I fish a little farm pond with palm + size bream in it and a 4# is more than enough. The caveat is the same pond has largemouth to 8+lbs. in it and when one of those grabs my popper it is game over pretty quickly (even worse when one of the slobs eats the sunfish you are playing).Oct 8, 2009 at 11:03 pm in reply to: Favorite music (or other media) for the fishing destination drive #41963
John WilliamsMemberIt really varies by the type of river and the drive but here is a sampling:
Five Finger Death Punch, Pantera, Disturbed, SevenDust, Blue Traveler, CRY
John WilliamsMemberProbably need to back off from the knee jerk reaction a little. My biggest concern is in the rush to develope this resource things are going to be overlooked either intentionally or accidentally. I have hiked the Lehigh River Gorge and Glen Oko in Eastern PA and 30+ years after the exploratory wells were shot you still need to be wary of where you hike and walk.
John WilliamsMemberDan,
Don’t worry though according to the Natural Gas Guys the waste water (when handled and decontaminated properly) is completly harmless to the environment and the millions of gallons needed per hour is only a minute amount of what is available. The probelm is there are very few facilities capable of Handling and properly decontaminating the waste water “properly” so they will need to build a bunch of those to go along with the exploratory wells and then the 10 acre well head platforms. And of course we can’t levy any sort of tax on the gas mans earnings because it would be discouraging to the developement of this wonderful resource.
John
John WilliamsMemberWelcome John. I hope to be fishing down in your neck of the woods next year when i retire. I fish the Little Lehigh and Saucon in my part of Pa. Stop up and visit us some time.
Bill
I grew up in the Lehigh Valley. In fact a considerable part of my formative years was spent on the Bushkill, Saucon and Monocacy.
