I’m looking to add another tool to the herd and was thinking a 10′-10’5″ 4# would make a nice addition. I favor a medium to medium fast action to meet my casting stroke and hope to use this rod as a general tool for bigger waters ( i.e. Delaware System) as well as a jobspecific tool for wet flies on medium to smaller waters.

I have no specific loyalties to any maker however sub 350$ pricepoint would be nice.
    Any suggestions?

    John,

Are you looking for a traditional rod or a switch rod?  From what you describe using the rod for, it sounds like a switch rod might be worth looking into.

While I don’t have any experience with Beulah rods personally, I’ve heard great things and their 10’6″ 4/5wt. switch rod sounds like it might fit the bill for what you’re looking for.

The Orvis Helios is at a significantly higher price point than you mentioned and might be a little faster action than you prefer, but they are outstanding rods and I know people love the 10-footers.  They make a 10′ 4wt. normal single handed rod.

Orvis just recently introduced the Hydros line, which to my understanding is basically a more budget-minded rendition of the Helios line.  They don’t currently carry anything in the 10 foot length in the Hydros line, but you might want to keep your eyes peeled to see if they release something like that in the future.  In the Helios line they also have an 11′ 5wt switch, as do a number of other companies if you’re interested in going that route.

The Sage 10′ 4wt. Z-axis is another favorite for people that like the 10 footers.  Again, it might be a little faster than you prefer and it’s at a high price point, but the Z-axis rods are another awesome line of sticks.

Not sure if any of that info will help, but I hope at least some of it is useful for you.

    John,

I saw one of those 10′ 4/5 switch rods by Beulah.

I have been fishing a Hardy Marksmen 10′ 4 weight for over 2 years now.

John, I think Zach had an old article in the archives on switch sticks.
