You need not worry about pirates, we dont really find them along our shores.

The guiding company Henry spoke is probably the best there is in the game.
Here is some more info on them
    And some more

Alternatively, contact Mike or myself while you are here, we have a few streams we can take you out to. Species include Small Mouth Yellow Fish, Large Mouth Yellow Fish, Barbel(Catfish), Rainbows and Browns and Tigers, all within a short drive. I suggest you bring nothing smaller than a 6wt, except for the trout, there you can bring a 4wt or if you have lighter, then that will work too.

You are sure to enjoy some of the best fishing you’ve had before.

There is some great water in Hamilton also. I’ve not personally fished there, but have a friend who does regularly. I’d be happy to forward your details on to him if you like?

Also, dont forget about Wellington, some good water out there too.
North of Auckland is mainly salt water stuff if I remember correctly.

You’ll also find some more info here:

The bottom fly looks like its got too much light coming in from the right.

Neal did a great little contribution about taking pics of flies in the vice recently. I saw that Neal put those articles on his site, so have a look there.

Where/How would one change the Kelvin on a 20D? Is there a custom function.

    If you’re out a few 100K

    Another silly question – 100K = Kelvin?

    Great thread this guys!

Quick question though, I heard somewhere that if you are shooting in RAW it doesn’t matter what your WB is set as you can always change it afterwards. Is this correct and what would be the best way to do this?

Mike, I wouldn’t advise you to use soldering wire – its lead density ratio is not good enough, so you end up with too much “body” but no real weight benefit. Sure its a cheaper, more readily available option, but a better bet is to collect the lead sheets from wine bottles and use those. You’ll feel the difference, and be able to tie slimmer flies!

I haven’t really fished streamers on NZ’s rivers, so cant add much value!

I fished a large Woolly Bugger on the Hutt river recently, brought 4 fish out in about half many hours (thats not bad for the Hutt).

    Pattern:
    Hook #8 TMC long shank
    Bead: Tatanium colored cone, 4.5mm
Body: Sparkle Crystal in a peppermint green
    Hackle: Black
    Tail: Black

    Neal,

Great post!  I’m definitely going to have to tie some of these up.  One quick question for you though, you said that the Boobie fly is a great slow sinking pattern, does it actually sink?  It seems like it would float with all that foam.  I’m thinking it could be a great pattern for mousing for browns at night….

    Thanks,
    Tim

We fish them with a weighted fly in front of them, on a slow sink line – over weed beds. Gives the fly a zig-zag movement, and doesn’t catch on the weeds!

Stoneflies and inch worms are not terrestrials, no!
But I think they are relevant to what Mike is after.

If I’m correct, I think he is after the adult stage of the bigger type of insects found in stream side vegetation – dont know. Mike?
