I really loved the ongoing fall browns thread and thought i’d kick one up for ‘winter fishing’ … For me winter on the river is about solitude, snow, and contrast.

Check out the glass rod Cameron! Not my rod … I cast it for 5 mins and tied about 12 knots in the leader. LOL.

Looks almost IR with the frost in the tree.

Corey…I was thinking this past week that I hadn’t seen you around much…but I guess  you’ve been winter fishing.  Beautiful photos.  Do you remember what fiberglass that was?  Looks like a Japanese Quiet Loop…but I could be mistaken.

Knotted up the leader a bit?

Thanks Cameron … I didnt catch exactly which rod it was, but I do remember he did say it came from Japan. So, I would put my money on you being 100% correct 🙂 HA! SSSSLLLLLOOOOWWWW is right!

Rob: Great stuff … I love the Rod/Tongue shot! — “I triple dog dare you!” and the “warming our hands on the little j on xmas day 01” is great!

Bryan: I was hoping you’d post your shots. Was a great day out! I love that last shot … Great sense of scale, the mist, and the fog .. Awesome!

Which glass rod is that? Cameron was asking

Thanks for the words felas! It was a gorgeous day on the water, not sure what the temp was at 5:30am but it was cold!

Cor – The Fiberglass rod is an Axico. “air rite (not sure if its one word) 7′ 3wt 6 piece. It was a B-day gift from my far away friend ‘Yuhina’.

I don’t know whether to envy you guys for your wonderful snow backgrounds or pity you for having to fishin those conditions.

How’s this for winter fly fishing?!  It was 83 degrees today in Mineral Wells TX and I was at the Highway 16 Bridge over the Brazos River where I landed this little stocker…

    …I think I got sunburn.

Yesterday was crazy with the warmth in Texas but I’ve ventured to some cold places to fish.  One time my buddies and I went up to Beavers Bend in OK.  It was our first time up there and we were pumped to fish the Lower Mountain Fork that we hit the water at sunrise when it was 13 degrees.  One friend’s rod snapped in half, two friends dunked their waders, and I couldn’t feel my left foot until mid afternoon.  It was the coldest we’d ever fished but some of those pics above look even colder.
